My sub is broken...

I took my watch off last night before I went to bed. When I went to put it on this morning to go out, I noticed it had stopped, so I wound it, set the time, and all seem well. I glanced back a minute later and noticed it had stopped again. I shook it, and the second hand went all shakey, then went forward a few seconds, then it started running backwards. Its now frozen, but a shake will get the second hand to move a few seconds. Anyways, I'm taking it back to the AD tommorow to see what they say, but I'd figure I' would get the opinion of some of you guys on what has happened....

Sorry to hear that. Maybe a broken main spring? At any rate, it will get fixed as good as new, you'll just be without it for a few weeks.

A new battery will do the trick

Seriously – I’m sure your RSC can fix it. Long time since last service?

Thanks for letting me know. My Rolex watches seem to be acting up so I will pick up some batteries when I'm out shopping. What battery size do Rolex watches take or are all models different? For instance, does the DSSD take a D size battery while the Daytona might only take the C size battery? I am so amazed on how they get those large batteries into those watches!

As far as I know, the watch received a full overhaul before I bought it, a year ago at the end of july. Going to AD tommorow to drop it off to them and to see if its covered.

I was in a Rolex AD once when a posh lady bought in a fake Rolex and asked them to put a new battery in it She was sent away with a flea in her ear!

Did the lady know her Rolex was fake and how did the AD treat her? It could have been a possible opportunity for the AD to talk her into buying a new Rolex!

Typically when the sweep hand occillates back and forth it's the mainspring but occasionally a screw gets loose and gets stuck in the gears causing it to do the same thing. Rik the watchmaker

The Ford Festiva dosent use much gas either. And, yes, I dropped it off at Ashley's for a trip to Toronto. Apparantly its going to Mr. Ashley too.

And Al, I finally got the pocket watch I was having restored back from the guy you reccomended. He did great work, but you were definatly right about him taking his time...

Thanks for the information! Now I know why I had problems when I tried to fit the D and C size batteries into my watch! I will run out to the store right now to get some AAA batteries. I am sure it should help with the accuracy since I am losing 1 second every 5 days!

I missed out...............what was the problem with your watch? The mainspring?

Good to know it's in surgery and will come out new.

Cheers,

So did the AD say what was wrong with the watch when they looked at it?

No kidding. I've had 3 there since before the last snowfall and they're still not ready. I hate to say it but I think I'm going to have to find another watchmaker. The problem is, he's really good when he finally gets around to it.

Btw, how did your pocket watch turn out? Post a few pix of it.

It will come back all polished and shiny too. If that's any consolation. Good luck!

The AD didnt really know what was wrong with it, nor did they want to offer any insight.

I will get some pics tonight Al, I actually had it restored for a friend...
