Took the plunge (DateJust 16013)
I scored my first Rolex from an estate sale. Got the warranty card and both boxes with it. The band is too small however. I'm not worried about doing my own work, but would appreciate thoughts on the best tool for removing the band, what your thoughts are on acquiring an aftermarket band for daily wear and the best way to measure what band size I need. I've been wearing a Pulsar solar for about 30 years now. If I measure that one, I assume that will give me a general idea of the size I need for my DateJust. I would post a picture but I don't have enough accumulated posts yet.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your newest acquisition. I would first bring it to a reputable watchsmith (watchmaker? repair person.) to have it opened, cleaned, regulated. I would want to start my ownership with a watch from a constant; my own "square one," if you understand me.
You're saying "band" & I assume you mean bracelet, not a leather/canvas strap? If so, there are a few aftermarket (non Rolex "official") jubilee bracelets available. There are also some old/refurbished bracelets available from Rolliworks or maybe one of their competitors. You could also shop on Chrono24 for a matching bracelet. The best tool to remove a bracelet on a vintage DJ36 would be a springbar tool. Watch strap kits (like this: https://www.everestbands.com/collect...ols-springbars) will do the trick. They can be found cheaper than on that link.

Take it in to a AD that has a watchmaker and they can size the bracelet for you by adding links. You may want to get it fully serviced as well and it would come back almost as new. Congrats

Congrats! If it were mine, I’d source some extra links, or replace the band with the correct ones, if in bad shape. I’d check eBay, for whichever you need. It probably needs to be serviced, as well. Take it to A Rolex Service Center, or authorized dealer, who will send it, for you.

Congrats! Post some pictures of the watch when you can.
As everyone else has said I would recommend a few new links for the bracelet versus all out replacement if it’s in ok shape.

You now own the classic DJ...congrats!
Consider contacting the RSC about servicing your watch; well worth it, IMO. |

Thank you all for the insight and advice. The jubilee bracelet is in great shape. I think I will probably pursue the purchase of an additional link.
