What to buy - Panda or Gold/black Daytona?
Hi all Rolex fans! Would love your opinion.
In a position where I'm looking to add Daytona to my collection! Deciding between 2021 Panda 116500LN and TT 116503 gold/black ($28k vs $20k). What do you think might be a financially wiser choice to make at this point if someone wanted to get one of these pieces today from secondary market? :) Big premium for Panda or go for TT gold/black Daytona that's much closer to MSRP, although less desirable. Or should I not rush with this big purchase and wait till 2024 and see what happens with Panda prices (as i don't think TT price would dip much further)? Asking because I love them both equally and just want to make the wiser financial choice. Thank you! |

If I were you, IŽd go for the TT Daytona. It is a beautiful watch and IŽd not pay 8k more for the SS Daytona. Not in 1000 years.

100 % go for SS 116500LN, and you could wait but you will never regret for buying the steel model for the many many years later.

Fashions change. All you need is a rockstar or full on A-lister to pick up on an underappreciated model and the watch you nearly bought because you liked it now has a nickname and is worth 4x what you could have paid for it & you're kicking yourself for following the crowd.

The, "Financially wiser," choice is probably as you say yourself: don't rush-in and wait to see what happens.
The market is volatile right now, so unpredictable. Wait a year. |

The two-tone is very under-rated and really stunning in person. It looks and wears amazing, exact same case dimension as its steel counterpart, but just a little extra heft that gives a little more "oompf!"
As far as "financially sound" decision, your best choice is to buy from your AD and not through the secondary market. You will probably have a better shot at the 116503. Make sure you are thoughtful and careful when committing to such a large purchase.

I also struggle with the same situation before. But I got lucky and purchased a TT Daytona from my AD and I did not regret my decision. TT is so underrated and I agree with some of the comments - I would not pay an extra 7-8K over.

Buy what you like most. One thing to consider... a 16528 can be had under 40k and is actually worth the money.

SS 116500LN all the way , the TT one is priced lower due to demand now and in the future.

Get the two tone from grey for less than retail, IMO.

The TT black & gold all day long from an aesthetic perspective. The Panda is a pretty unexciting watch to look at in reality - another one of those models that is popular because it has a nickname…..

that's a tough choice! Both the Panda and Gold/Black Daytona are stunning watches. It really depends on your personal style and preference.
But the Daytona works for me. |

I considered this choice (or something very similar). I decided to go for the Rolesor (albeit with the gold sunburst dial). And although there are unworn grey examples asking slightly over RRP available in my country, I will wait to get the new reference from an AD at RRP. I can afford to wait.

Thank you very much for all of your feedback on this! I'm very much now leaning towards getting the 116503 now and Panda next year if I'm fortunate enough to get it even cheaper :D

Panda is the way to go. Looks better, more popular but not very attainable, first steel ceramic model only produced for 7 years including very low production in the two years of covid which has a chance of being collectable in future, Panda is the face of Rolex and needs strong relations or spend to get at retail from AD, and will continue to be so for a long time, and a steel Daytona is a stable in any collection somthing like a Speedmaster is in my opinion. Also TT Daytona is very undesirable so better go for GMT or Sub if you like TT.
