Modicum of Sanity Rolex CPO Explorer II 16570?

I’ve been keeping my eye on the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned pricing. It seems that after the initial follies of pricing they’ve come back down to earth.

https://www.mayors.com/Rolex-Certifi...006/p/40921858

10k seems the reasonable ballpark market price for this Exp II ?

Anyone else spotted the tempered CPO enthusiasm?

Their 116610 is a little high compared to grey market!

Umm… $10,950 is a bit high IMO. Cheaper with original papers elsewhere.

You get some peace of mind with RCPO. That’s worth something to some people. I guess we all must decide how to spend our money.

That Expl II at Mayors is way overpriced, in the neighborhood of $3K.
Anyone who buys that for $10,5K, well I guess Barnum was right.

I admit to not being up to speed on contemporary pricing. I know I traded my black dial 16570 for 11k in 2021.

It's about 2k over market. But if it had a service that's worth a K and there is the Rolex tax. Not a terrible deal.

These can easily be found for $8-9k at reputable dealers discussed on here regularly. Black 16570s even lower close to $7-8k.

Saw a nice example of the polar dial with tritium for $6250 so yeah I’d say they’re still a bit high.

Do CPO watches come with box and papers etc? Or just the CPO card, tag, and a Rolex pouch?

What I don’t like with all the CPO offers, you don’t have any idea how old the watch is, what extras come with it etc.

I’m sure ,if you ask, they can tell you date of manufacture, by the serial number.

Right - same price for models from the mid 1990's to mid 2000's. Models have different cases, dials/lume and bracelets/end links. I would opt for the newest model if going the CPO route.

Nope. If you use % then it is in line with the others. They are about 50-60% higher than trade price.

Yes, but let’s consider some factors. Nobody has yet established what the CPO criteria is. Because if it’s the same as RSC (which one would assume it is) then, for example, I’ve sent several watches from the 90s for service and received back a pre-estimate that included crown and crown stem. In the case of my zenith Daytona’s, both pushers were “always” replaced. Furthermore, both watches I had from new so the bracelets were worse for wear. On both occasions RSC accurately identified that an entire new bracelet was advisable. Same applied to the Daytona bezel, it was replaced both on my TT version and the SS.

Now I know that as an owner I could decline these aspects at service. But one would assume that RSC would not decline their own advice in a CPO scenario?

Now, what if these CPO watches get that full treatment as described above? Including new bracelet, bezel, crown tubes, pushers (in case of Daytona) and maybe even a dial and hands?

Get my points?

I believe they're all serviced / polished by RSC. So it's like getting a brand new one with a two-year warranty... and no worries about 100% authenticity.

Steven, did you read my post above? I’d be interested in your opinion.

I firmly believe that RSC can’t have two contradictory levels of service nor criteria. Namely, those recommendations we’ve all seen (i mean those of us who have sent a watch for service) that often seem overzealous to replace this and that, especially bracelets, cases, bezels etc. could contribute to quite a handsome CPO preparation sum. Right?

Examples:

How much is a bracelet from RSC?
How much are solid gold crowns, crown tubes or pushers from RSC?
How much is a white or YG fluted bezel from RSC?

Get my point? Some of these items are extremely costly. So if RSC maintains its exacting standards & criteria for CPO program preparatory service, we can only assume some, if not all, these items could presumably be replaced?

I don’t know. Certainly would justify pricing.
Imho it is probably the opposite. The only goal that the CPO serves is being a business model for AD’s to maximize profit after all.

So many times I have been ‘cheated’ out for a new crystal at service without the old one having a mark on it that I don’t believe that they would change such items if they had to pay it themselves.
Because of these petty cheats of a $150 I don’t believe their business morals are particularly high and fitting a new bracelet or fluted bezel as easily as recommending same to silly us is not likely.

Why not just buy one here off of the forum for under $7k, get it serviced at RSC for ~$1,000? You'll get the same result if the RSC warranty is what you're after and save $2,950.
