New member, old wearer (Datejust 16030)

Joined yesterday, wanting to learn more about the 16030 Datejust I bought new back in 1988. It has been on my wrist 99% of the time since. Has treated me faithfully, kept amazingly accurate time, and it 100% original as it came out of the box. Jubilee has significant stretch, but is so silky comfy that I don't know if I can stomach getting it refurbed...

Side note: can you all tell me if the sapphire crystal is unusual for this reference? Pictures I see online of 16030 ref have acrylic.

Welcome to the forum!

I just hope that watch doesn't have any sharp edges...

As far as I know the 16030 came with a plastic crystal. The next generation 16220 had the saphire crystal.

I have a M16030 datejust (jubilee, fluted, blue dial) that was purchased new in 1989. It has the acrylic crystal. In fact, it is currently at the RSC getting a new one along with a full service.

Great history with a great watch. Whats the best story you can share about the watch?

I don't know that I have a specific story that comes to mind. I think one of my favorite aspects is that it is so seldom noticed by anyone. I recall a first visit with a physician where he walked into the room and as he was saying "hello" he walked right up and took my left wrist and commented about the watch.

Recently I had a girl I didn't know ask me if that was "supposed to be a real Rolex?" I just chuckled and said it was over thirty years ago when I bought it.
