Assess this 5513 Maxi 1
Hi experts, would you appreciate your comments on this 5513.
Is the bezel insert correct? What do you think of the polishing extent? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm not an expert but the 5513 i can clearly tell that once it's in good condition especially those with original components and patina, command premium prices on the vintage watch market.
Since it's a timeless icon in the world of dive watches, revered for its rugged reliability, classic aesthetics, and enduring appeal among watch enthusiasts. |

Chamfers are way over polished. Otherwise it looks good.

Agree with above …. Way, way over-polished. Not just the chamfers. Those poor crown guards. Insert font looks thin, presumably a service insert.

The case is not the best, but it's an attractive dial/hand-set. If the price is right, you could enjoy wearing it. I don't know why people don't include asking prices in these inquiries, the price matters so much.

Chamfers look seriously ordinary
As mentioned by Dan S the price is a massive indicator if it’s reasonable value or not |

Thanks for all the inputs!
The watch (only) comes with period correct bracelet / clasps. Private seller is asking for US$16K. I feel this is too steep. Roughly how much would you value it at? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’m not very knowledgeable about inserts, but to me this one doesn’t identifies clearly to be a mk5.0 or mk5.1 (hooked 5 / incomplete 4), which I understand to be the correct ones for a 1978 5513. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ok to me.... an about average condition 46 yr old 5513, handsome dial, oxidation on hands, very nice orig. crown and plexi, hopefully a correct 5512/5513 caseback, and typical case recutting - but as Dan says all about price....I'll snaffle and happily wear anything at right price. And a well bought non-minter appreciates just as much as a minter, % wise, I've found last 45 years, if bought really 'well' !
Just seen the $16k.... that is very nice much rarer meters first money to me! I'd personally see this at £9.5k /$12,500 very tops if I was buying in UK and it had 76-79 93150 clasp.

Thanks, appreciate your valuation and I agree with it. For $16K, that’s what I would consider for a good condition Maxi I with B&P. At the moment for around $12500, I’m also have a seemingly good condition matte dial 16800 with B&P under consideration. For this, I think the price can be slightly lower :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It looks like the crown guards on the 16800 have also been polished very much.

You have been talking about 5513 Maxi’s - I say take the 16k you have allocated and keep looking. Buy the nicest damn watch you can.
I also like the 5513 maxi a lot, the look of the dial and the fact that they can be found in good condition. Those chamfers are pretty fat for a late 70’s sub. They cut all the way to the spring bar holes. I like the 16800 matte dial watches but you seem like you want a no date. I’ve always wanted a no date sub and after recently picking one up I feel like this is how they should be. I would figure out what you want first and buy the best example you can. Thanks, good input! Question I ask myself, if I only have 1 sub in my collection, what would it be. Heart says the 5513… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I feel like a lot of pieces are being hoarded and if they are good ones they aren't leaving that specific collection or they will be sold at really high prices but between collectors and not so much online. Easy example are red subs, a lot of the current ones aren't worth it. 4 digit daytona's, 4 digit subs and GMTs, even 4 digit DJs. 16800 I barely see at the bigger names. |

I have noticed the same thing. It’s even worse with Tudor subs, most dials on watches for sale are less than desirable. When one does pop up for sale with a nice dial it’s very expensive. I have been looking at early Tudor subs ever since I bought my 80’s snowflake. I tried to figure out what it would cost me to get a NICE 7928 or early 7016. Lucky for me a forum member helped me get what I was after, out of his collection at a fair price. You almost have to do the EBay thing to find under market, under valued watches. I found a really nice one there about 4-5k under retail because the photos were awful. Luckily I knew what I was getting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
