FWIW I've also had horrible experiences with Shreve (SF and Palo Alto). Most AD's at least attempt to play the game and suggest you build a "relationship", but will still humor you and say they would consider you for Rolex. Not Shreve, had two SAs flat out tell me I need to buy jewelry and other watch brands before they would even consider selling me a Rolex. The SF store is also looking pretty haggard these days, they have closed their upstairs jewelry section and moved everything downstairs.

Oh weird. I have an AD rep there who is very warm to me though they’ve never delivered the goods for me so maybe they value me but not enough to give me a SS Rolex |

I don’t agree with the idea that NY is an awful place to build a relationship with an AD. But I think if you are traveling most anywhere and they know you are from out of town it’s a real roll of the dice. It seems most shops prefer selling to locals or visitors who frequent enough to be considered as such. I know a lot of ADs can’t hold pieces very long if you “get the call” so they would likely prioritize locals - that goes for most places.
If you are just interested in having a great experience seeing Rolexes then check out the Torneau Time Machine - I was there recently just to see what there is to see across many brands and was treated very well. If you are just curious about Rolex then I think the shop in the meat packing has a great selection, also a Torneau / Bucherer. Very friendly staff. Last time I was in there with my lady they had five pieces ready to move - one was a smaller steel DJ and the rest were two tone and PM but they had things. I think if you are managing your expectations and are prioritizing the experience there are plenty of great places in the city to see great watches - be friendly and build rapport. If you are hoping to just pop in and walk out with a SS piece the odds aren’t in your favor. I say all of that but a few months after I moved back here I stopped by an AD - literally just walking by. Asked a few questions and looked at a few things. Two months later and I “got the call”. That’s not normal - I only share that because I think NY gets a bad wrap but I have been treated very well and I don’t think I’m a VIP by any stretch. |

I recommend Bucherer 3 Bryant Park. They are my Rolex AD and I’ll stay with them so long as I’m in the area. Such nice sales associates who take you seriously.

I love Wempe. Everyone is great there. I got Rolex from there when I didn’t know anyone.

Gerald peters in Staten Island has been fantastic to me.
As far as NYC goes- Depends what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for GMT’s, Daytona, etc, there is no “relationship building”. You simply must spend money, and a lot of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
