Walk-in in Hong Kong today - offered a Submariner, GMT, Day-Date, Sky-Dweller, and

and Sea-Dweller.

All were precious metals, e.g. the Submariner was the yellow gold with blue dial.

This seemed kind of wild but maybe things are returning to normal again?

Interesting to hear. I would’ve thought in that part of the world things would be very difficult to obtain

I would've been shocked if they were all SS but PM models are becoming more available.

In the UK my AD it is similar. Yesterday had Rose Daytona, White Gold Daytona, Yellow Gold Jubilee GMT and solid Rose Root Beer.

All new watches, huh?
Very good. Do they sell for MSRP in HK, or can they mark price up?

Highest concentration of AD's. Stand at the corner of Pedder St and Queens Rd Central and you will see 3 ADs within 50 yards in all 3 directions, no exaggerations.

I think we'll be back closer to the way it used to be this time next year. Interest rate hikes always take 12-24 months to kick in

You're right, the sea dweller has traditionally been offered in precious metals like yellow gold, they're giving collectors more option to choose from.

Inventory is out there, visited a boutique this week and was offered PM watches as a walk in with no history. Gold Sub, Sky Dweller, and Day Date like OP. They actually had a few SS too, a 36mm Explorer and a black Explorer II. Holding out for a SS Sub as my first purchase.

Not so many these days. Hong Kong had 67 ADs in total when I checked the Rolex site, a few years ago. Now it's only showing 32.

That's still a lot though!

Looking forward to my HK trip, leaving in 10 days

It isn’t unusual for these scenarios to take a reverse path from where they came. If we all recall the first watches to increase substantially were SS sports. Shortly after any SS was at a premium (the just released colorful OPs come to mind during the hay day). Then we saw the hype bleed into PM pieces starting with the green dial Daytona (aka John Meyer) and the smurf which had been under retail forever but suddenly shot up, especially after being discontinued.

So, what we are seeing is a return to normality in reverse. PM are dropping like lead balloons and the rest is and will filter down and gradually reach SS sports. My experience tells me that the SS Daytona is a good barometer of the entire market.

…while we in the Southern US have to drive 4 hours in either direction to get to an AD. Something wrong with that picture in my opinion. Then again, if all they have are tacky gold watches it’s not much of a loss.

Rolex watches have been available at ADs in Hong Kong since the early 1930s; a couple of decades before the brand got much of a foothold with ADs in the USA.

Go into the Rolex Service Centre any day of the week and you will see the place packed with people of all shapes, sizes, ages, and wealth brackets. Office girls, rich housewives, old men with their retirement Datejusts, and young entrepreneurs with their vintage PN Daytonas and red subs, etc, etc.

Not just tacky gold watches.

Rolex culture is in HK folks' DNA. Hans Wilsdorf’s death in 1960 made Front Page news in the local papers here. I doubt that was the case in many other cities around the world.

Hong Kong is full of money. Seriously there are rich people everywhere here. When you're middle class your tiny apartment costs at least USD 1M (more likely USD 2M+). I personally have met a few billionaires. It's a different world to the west.

And then of course you have the wealthy mainlanders coming here to buy watches for money laundering. One of the biggest jewellery chains here makes its money from money laundering.
