NEW 18k Deep Sea 136668

Hey

What are you thoughts about this watch?

seen pics and it looks stunning and can understand why Rolex can produce something like this then i realize its because they can....

the gold glide lock looks like a fantastic piece of engineering IMO.

What are your thought about the amount of these pieces that wil be released into the open market. I heard that one of the UK dealers only received 2 of them.

Thoughts and answers appreciated.

I’d like to see in person. Could be pretty cool. Big block of Rolex gold!

Isn’t something like just under 3/4 pound? Seems a tad uncomfortable.

I’m kinda excited about it. Would maybe pick one up someday if I can find a good deal on a used one. Would be a bit nervous being the first owner as I’ve taken some hard depreciation on gold watches.
But I think it would be a really watch tk have laying around.

Seems like self-parody to me. Kind of a humorous "Who says we don't make tool watches any more?!" line, with a touch of "Hold my beer!"

It’s for those that know what they want and isn’t something to be talked into.

General availability is still an unknown.

Like most Rolexes, it mostly only looks good from the top. Any other side angle and it starts to get a bit ridiculous.

I think those who still enjoy large and thick watches will love it, but IMO most people moved from these statement pieces a while ago.

I like it very much, the blue is lovely and gold is by far the better material for any diver thanks to its inert characteristics.
It’s the quintessential dive or tool watch

I just don’t understand who it was made for. It’s going to weigh 3/4 of a lb. It’s such a strange idea.

I like it but price is way to hectic.

Each to their own, but personally I think it's hands-down the silliest model Rolex have ever made.... and that's saying something in a world where the "Celebration" and "Puzzle" dials exist.

I think it's awesome, and it's been my computer wallpaper since the announcement. Keep in mind I happily own a TT Sea Dweller already, which some people think is a ridiculous watch too, so perhaps I'm naturally inclined to like this one.

I spoke to my AD about it and he acted like getting me one would not be a problem.

The price is steep which is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I like it. The blue ceramic ring lock nicely balances the dial and case. I daily a DSSD JC and realize the weight would be significantly greater but don't see it as a problem at all.

I don't know why but I love it!
If my wrists were bigger Id get one for sure.
But I know it will look huge on my 6.8 in wrist.
Its not for everyone that is for sure but there will be lots of buyers I bet.

I like it other than the titanium bits on it. Pretty cool overall though.

IMO a lot of Rolex's worst releases in the past decade have been attempts to copy bad decisions by Omega.

Look at the way the Sea-Dweller was turned into a "Submariner Plus," for example, or how Rolex Omega's lead in incoherent precious metal versions of hardcore tool watches. Or the public release of the Deepsea Challenge, following Omega's public release of their Ultra Deep.

There's nothing wrong with Rolex taking influence from Omega or vice versa; it's been done to great results before, such as the Seamaster borrowing the external rotating bezel from the Turn-o-Graph and Sub, or the Rolex chronos borrowing the external tachymeter scale from the Speedmaster. But those were pioneering early design decisions, not marketing strategies.
