Your thoughts?

Personal collectability - Yes. A fantastic watch, with a unique handwritten dial.
But overall, if you are talking about future auction values - probably not. Maybe some small possibility. I sometimes feel people overhype that the watch is made of steel. There are many steel watches in the catalogue - 5905, 5935, Twenty-Four etc. It's just another steel watch from Patek. I personally really like the watch though, especially with a blue calf strap. |

I thought the 5212a would be take out of the collection this year (5 yrs after introdution) and that the number of watches would be limited. If that had been the case it would be my guess that the model would be a absolute collectable in the future.
Seems I was wrong :) |

It will appreciate 2000% in the future.

The resale value decreases every year. So there is no way the 5212a will become a collectible piece. AD receives more of them every year. The current market price has been below the msrp for quite some time now.

This is the next watch on my wishlist; I don’t think this will be a collectible per se but I am no expert. The complication however is very helpful for my business which is a key factor for me opting for it.

Collectible as a unique spirit, maybe. Collectible as "investment value" I don't know but one of the factors is the volume produced, a figure that is difficult to assess. If the volumes are high, the answer would more likely be "no".

I feel the dial of the 5212 is just too flat. It lacks depth because everything is just printed and there is no texture or guilloche or anything which is a shame. The complication however is quite unique so I think there is potential for a remodel.

I think it’s a beautiful watch but not a peoples favorite looking at its trade value which is nearly 25% below list.

Too much supply to be a genuine collectible from a price/value perspective.

The original mock up drawing for the dial was hand drawn and the production dial has been printed based on this hand drawn dial rather than created using a font.

I think the watch will always be desirable and all Pateks are worn by collectors at this point.

Personally I like it and think it’s relatively unique in the PP catalogue - not sure if it will translate into “collectability” 10, 20 years from now. For my next watch am deciding between this and the new rolex platinum 1908 (neither of which I’ve been able to try on).

I often find it’s tough to delineate between collectible and likely to appreciate more than other contemporary pieces. If it’s a patek it’s collectible in my book. Very few modern watches are likely to be a better investment than traditional alternatives.

I've always found the 5212 elegant but how do you confirm there is too much supply?
Do similar arguments hold for the 5960P and 5905P which also trade below retail, or are those very different because they are more complicated and more collectible? |

It will never be something that has a lot of collectibility. It has a really cool printed dial. That’s about all that it has going for it.

I don’t think there is another weekly calendar in their catalog (or history?) and if so not cases in steel to my knowledge. So it has that going for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I always expected the 5212 and 1st gen 5235 to be future collectibles. But looking at C24 there’s quite a bit of availability for both at prices way below rrp. Who knows what will happen in 20 years.

I would point to the 5960P, which unites a platinum case, annual calendar and flyback chrono. Definitely a historic model for Patek, introduced in 2006 after the annual calendar in 1996. It's also available in steel.
https://monochrome-watches.com/the-c...hilippe-5960p/ The 5960 is generally not trading at a premium over retail (far from it), even if it is arguably collectible and respected by collectors. I understand the 5212 is produced in greater numbers so I'd manage expectations. A beautiful watch one would be happy to own regardless. |

I absolutely love my 5212, but I have zero expectations of it becoming a collectable piece.

I wish it was available only for a couple years. They made way too many.
