Dusty Daytona

I want to preface this by saying I'm not a safe-queen owner, I wear all of my watches all the time and don't get too het-up about scratches or marks.

However,

I just looked down at my new 126500LN I picked up on Saturday and spotted this



Don't mind the other spots of dust on the outside, the one in the circle that has appeared on the dial. Now I've spotted it I can't unsee it...

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I wouldn't normally mind but I've had this less than a week and it's rather annoying. Also, any recommendations to perhaps somehow magically remove it without opening the case or sending it away would be appreciated haha!

I should add I've checked pics I've taken of the watch prior to today, and it's not there... it's something that's appeared at least in the last 24-46hrs

Have you bought it from AD or grey? I have had my white for a month now and I don’t have this issue.

Picked it up from the AD on Saturday, brand new.

Congrats on the allocation. That’s all I’ve got to say. I’d enjoy it with the speck on the dial. I personally wouldn’t have the case movement removed for this, even by RSC.

Yeh I don't want to do that either - feels like overkill

But arguably, a £13,200 watch is overkill too, so to be bothered by something so microscopic is very annoying.

I totally get the whole "don't worry, enjoy it thing" and I am, but that's just a real stickler staring at me haha

Simple answer don't stare at it and throw away any high magnifying tools you might have. But if it bothers you only way to remove that very very very tiny spec is open watch up, that's something I would not do..

Id say it's too large of a speck to let go. Get it sorted and enjoy your watch.

I would be bothered. But opening a brand new watch is never good especially with all the horror stories about RSC leaving handling scratches and marks. Maybe best would be to leave it like this until the next service.

I had dust on the dial of my OP many moons ago. Fixed at walk-in NY RSC. Doubt they do that now... but easy fix which I would absolutely get done.

In my experience, if it bugs you now, it's not going to suddenly not do so.

Get it sorted for maximum enjoyment of that incredible piece.

I really dont want to have the watch opened up o soon into its life, plus in the UK, the nearest RSC is a good like 2hrs away from me. I don't really want to return it to the AD for them to send it away.

I guess I'll learn to live with it until service time

I suppose there is a chance it can go away the same way it arrived.

Rather annoying this can happen, I've had 6 new Rolexes all from the AD and nothing has ever done this before.

I don’t think it “just arrived”. I’m sure it was in there the whole time and just in a spot you couldn’t see it. Putting the watch on or getting it out of the safe probably jostled it loose and now it’s stuck to the crystal.


My James Cameron has a similar one but I don’t want to send it to RSC yet (since the depth rating on that watch is so deep I would never let anyone else open it)

So like you I’m living with it till service time lol. Congrats on scoring a new Daytona from the AD though!!

Yes as annoying as it is, it would take a watch being broken for me to send anything into the RSC.

My GMT also had some dust after some warranty work that was done. I let it sit for a year and last week I walked into my AD that is also marked as RSC for service. It was not very busy in the store so I talked to the rep about the dust. He said he would ask the watch maker if he had time, he had and he invited me into the watch lab. I got a tour and there were 2 Rolex certified watchmakers present at that moment and they showed me how they opened up my watch and removed the dust. They also showed me all the equipment and what it was for. After an hour and a half I left without a spec of dust. I would recommend getting it removed because if you can’t get past it it will ruin your enjoyment of the watch.

I had a tiny bristle brush in my 116500 white dial from DavidSW.
If you search my post history, i am sure you can find the thread with pics.
Lots of people said don't worry about it.

I did worry about it, and my AD's in house watchmaker removed it au gratis.
Zero regrets, it drove me nuts.

I’d certainly make a note of it with the AD. If they acknowledge it, give them the option of dealing with it now or having it corrected at your first service. It is important that it is noted now, not in the future.

I would find it annoying, every time you look at it you’ll see it and know it’s there .. if you can live with it fine .. I’d be onto the AD though ..

I messaged my SA, and he apologised and said if it's a problem, they can fix it ASAP; however, it would involve sending the watch away. If they had an in-house watchmaker, I'd probably be happy with that, where I can deal with everything while I grab a coffee, but other than that, I think I'll just wait and see if it continues to drive me mad or i get over it lol

If you went to the trouble to make a thread it bothers you. I'd have it fixed. Life is too short to be unhappy. Fix it and forget it :)

White speck on Black Dial is hard to unsee. Opening a new watch doesn't spoil it, easy fix, pressure test and done.

I would have to get it fixed immediately. You spent way too much money to have to deal with that spec of dust. Just bite the bullet, and get it sorted now.

I had a speck of lint on a new Daytona dial I bought from an AD in 2008.

It disappeared at some time.

The appearance of a new mark on the dial can be concerning, especially on a new watch like your 126500LN. Since it wasn't there in your previous pictures, it's definitely something new. Unfortunately, removing it without opening the case might be tricky. It might be worth having a professional take a look to ensure it's properly addressed without causing further issues.

As others have said, I’m also in favour of having it removed. Even if it “magically” moves and does disappear, you’ll know it’s there somewhere and could / would make an appearance again later on, which will truly annoy you!

Rolex Service Centers open up millions of watches all the time for various reasons; given the coveted timepiece that is the Daytona, I would get it fixed without fear.

Where are you based OP? Might be worth checking local ADs to see if they have Rolex approved watchmaker, I know there’s a couple in the North West…

I had same thing happen to my Hulk while on my way to LA. I decided to stop in at RSC (no longer there). They opened up the watch, removed the dust, closed it back up, pressure tested it, and gave it back to me with no charge. I’m happy I had it done, but it was convenient for me to do so. I don’t know how hard it would be for you. I would NOT let your AD “take care of it” as they might not be qualified or careful while doing it.
