Summer 2024 - What’s the Best Value in Rolex Today?

Nothing novel here, but I would say any Stainless Steel sport models available new through AD, particularly the Daytona, GMTs, and Subs.

For pre-owned, I continue to think the 5-digit PM Day Dates offer exceptional value.

What say you?

Submariner (sans date) IMO is one of the most excellent value Rolex's you can buy.

It's the Submariner, no frills, does the job. Despite its polished bits, is still an exceptionally capable tool watch.

I think the current secondary market price on the 12 series WG sub is a steal! Such a good looking watch and no hate on the blue dial 11 series but I really feel like the black gives the blue ceramic even more contrast and just makes the whole thing “pop” a little more.

5 Digit SD - Naked. Great bang for the buck.

Any black-dial Explorer II 16570 is exceptional value: Timezone, WR to 100m. GMT movement, and cheaper than a polar.

Stainless, silver dialed DJs seem to be a dime a dozen. Non Pepsi GMTs, 34mms are cheap too!

On secondary market 16570 GMTs and 18238 DDs are deals, 16600 SDs close to that, but my favorite watch is coming back to the best of all Rolex bargains again, black dial DSSD

For brand new models, I think the 126200 (non-fluted) Datejusts are still good values. They look fantastic, perfect for everyday use, and come in an option for everyone. Their prices haven't grown at the same pace as some of the more popular sports models.

For older models, the 114270 Explorers and 16600 Sea Dwellers seem like decent options still.

For new, the only reasonably priced watch in the Rolex catalogue is the OP. Price inflation has skyrocketed.

For used, 14270 or 114270 36mm Explorers. Mint examples can be bought in the high-4’s to mid-5k’s.

Darn, you beat me to it.

I just bought one recently (w/ 3186 mvmt). Absolutely love it for the reasons you describe + that "neovintage" charm. That said, the fact it's the only good value in late-model Professional watches certainly didn't hurt my decision.

I just can't get over how much 5-digit Subs and GMTs sell for when you consider how many were made over the years (i.e. millions)

For me it’s the facelift Air King 126900. Absolutely convinced it will be a future classic.

Summer 2024 - What’s the Best Value in Rolex Today?

It depends how you define value. I would say watches like the BLRO, BLNR, Sub LV and white dial Daytona offer the best value if you can get them brand new at MSRP.

In terms of used models, I’d say some of the PM models.

Yacht-master. Looks luxurious like a Rolex should and now widely available under MSRP.

Best value? OP41. Multiple dial colors from mild to wild, classic three hand GADA watch, brushed finish minimizes scratches. All for $6400USD.

Value and cheapest aren't necessarily the same thing.

If I get a white dial Daytona at MSRP, that's a high-value watch.

Some pre owned PM subs are now looking good value. Gold with a blue face for me always looks great

I’d say the SD43.

I believe they sell for close to or under retail on the secondary market.

IMO the explorer 2 is the best value for money. Dual time zone, everything is brushed excepted the flanks, date plus all the Rolex standards.

My vote is the 5 digits and 4 digit Day Dates as well really.

The 16570 is a fantastic value as well.
