Selling my Royal Oak for 5226G

Hi all, my AD offered me a 5226G that i really like but really need to trim my collection to add it in. Thinking of selling my 15500st Grey dial as it gets little wrist time to fund the bulk of it while topping up abit of cash. Would u do it?

Current collection:
PP 5205G Blue dial
Ap 15500st Grey Dial
VC 4020T/000G-B655 Openface Traditionelle
Pepsi BLRO 126710
Bell Ross BR05 Artline Dragon

The 15500 and the 5226 are completely different watches. I personally would never trade a Royal Oak for a basic Calatrava, it's not to my taste. and from a value prospective the 5226G is going for below retail by most secondary sellers.

But if the Royal Oak isn't something that you like and you don't mind paying retail for the 5226G then it's really your call. In this hobby it all comes down to personal taste and style, buy what you love

Mr Goh, if you really like the 5226 then go for it. I appreciate smaller Royal Oak hence this is a very easy decision for me if I'm in your shoes.

I wouldn't. You have your RO and you know how it wears on the wrist. The bracelet is iconic!

However, it is your taste and preference!

The bracelet is really sick and i love it. I would love to add the PP instead of selling it, but the sale would ease my finances considerably. What a dilemma.

The bright side is that my AP was gotten at retail many years back. So I'm wondering if it makes sense to use the sale and fund the 5226g.

As you know, to get an offer for a RO at retails, at this point and time, is not easy.

A RO is a watch I'd keep in my collection. It is a collecting journey. Why don't you hold up a bit and get a PP when it is time or to celebrate something...

If you say you're selling for RO to fund a Nautilus or a Aquanaunt. I would be there with you. However, not for the 5226G, IMHO!

You will look back and regret this decision! I can't tell you how many time I want to get the 16202ST in grey, but I didn't....

By the way, I went grey for my 5167A as I know I would never got an offer for this piece, considering where I live....

Regardless, do what your heart says... Life is too short. it is about what you want and what makes you happy, mate!

No need to keep the 15500 if you hardly wear it. Only you know if you like the 5226 enough to get it. I don't.

Absolutely not why would you sell the classic RO for a random overpriced Calatrava - don’t get me wrong it’s nice but nothing special

Having both .. I would say each wears differently as they are not the same category .

I would never sell the RO for the 5226g but would defo buy the latter

Two completely different watches IMO. For a Nautilus, I would do it. For a 5226, I would not.

Wow I'm pleasantly surprised by most of the comments here. I'm definitely getting the 5226g. Just a matter of adding it or replacing my 15500st

It’s a difficult decision. If you can keep the RO, then probably try to. I myself am in the same boat as you as I might be selling my RO if/when I can get the call for the 5164G. Then depending on situation, the RO may have to go…. And I know how difficult that decision is.

Sounds as if you're not enthusiastic about or wear (often two sides of the same coin) the RO.

So to me it doesn't really matter what you're trading it for as long as you're enthusiastic about the trade. It would be different if you were letting go a beloved piece.

One idea is to consider whether the cost savings of a preowned 5226 is worth going with an outright purchase instead of a trade while still keeping the RO. You can always get out of the RO in the future, and it might be instructive to possess both at the same time -- that often helps the decision whether to let a piece go.

I really love these 2 though haha so won't be selling them anytime soon.

The bell and ross is surprisingly one of my most worn pieces

Apples to oranges watches IMO. Given your collection, if it were me personally….id probably stay put to keep the variety. Although nothing wrong with having a few PP’s in a collection.

I would not. However, I would pick a new dial Code over a 5226 all day. Both pieces have an interesting case/mid-case design. Patek wins on thickness, but much prefer the Codes dial and crystal.

Ok I know it’s subjective but you are out of your mind - go to a corner and think hard about your life :)

Since you’ve had the RO for a while and have not been wearing it, I’d sell it and use the funds to purchase the PP 5226G.

IMHO the reason we collect watches is the passion we have for each individual piece and the enjoyment we get from them (e.g., BR05). If the passion is not there for the RO, then there is no reason to keep hanging onto it; the funds are better used on another timepiece.

The horological journey is all about the evolution of the collection and the timepieces we continue to enjoy!

P.S. PM me if you want some input about the 5226G itself since I have one in my collection.

I am not sure I would sell the RO for a 5226G, and I have one. I have a 16202 and they are two of my favorites for sure but doubt the 5226 would stay if I had to sell one of them.
