Pocket watches

Trends come, trends go, but can you imagine pocket watches again? In times of gilets and bon vivant, style and differentiated nobility? I think I recognize this trend! I know the future isn't to forsee, but is there anybody else who might see or feel this?!

I actually can see the future. And there’s not a pocket watch in sight.

BUT: see this. Vortex.com

It’s a Colorado based company that buys up old pocket, watches and rep purposes them into wrist watches. I’ve seen the products and visited with the owner ones, and it is an extremely cool concept. Watches are a tad big.

Pocket watch for weddings, that’s their place … or left in a box after being given as a present ..
We over time have evolved and through centuries arrived at the wrist watch for a reason, not to go backwards ….
But then again my Mum wore flares … and I see them every now and then, so what do I know .l

@MangoTree1, I thought about it once but I believe it's not practical enough for a regular use (to me at least).

+1

Maybe they would come back as desk decorations. They remain mechanical marvels.

Thank you for the valuable contributions. Of course, pocket watches are no longer becoming mainstream. A niche that will always remain a niche, but perhaps receives a little more attention than today. Patek has more pocket watch models in the actual cataloge than steel Nautilus (men)!

I love them and have been itching to buy a nice PP pocket watch from the late 1800 to early 1900, but I want a working one, with papers, and original box, etc. I also do NOT want and personal engraving. I have not found one yet, but eBay has many listings.

Pocket watches

As this thread is in the Patek section, I think this might be a good point to say $45k will get you this...

Including an 18k gold watch chain. Back in the day, the chain could be equal value to the watch.

I found this 1966 NOS 600 model and jumped on it right away, it was a fraction of the price of a new one.

Great pickup! The 600 is the pocket watch I'd get if I ever got one.

Mine from 1930. Patek did a full restoration on the movement for me a few years ago.
