President Band

I have a 1969 Day/Date with a 1967 jubilee band. I am looking for a President to replace it. Any referrals? Tried B.Gray already(sold). Sorry could not post this in the buy section.

I don't think that I see the advantage to buying a bracelet that will cost more than the watch is worth.........

In any event, if you read the rules in our For Sale Section, you will see when you can post there.............

A vintage President bracelet is worth how much more than the watch?

You can get an aftermarket bracelet from ewatchparts.com for a mere $2,700.

I saw another person who has the same watch but had a gold dial and was on a black leather strap.
As a matter of fact I remember seeing another one a while ago without a strap or bracelet.
What happens to the original bracelets? Really.

The Datejust, from it's beginning in 1945, was only offered with the Jubilee bracelet until the introduction of the Day-Date "President" in 1956. Because of that, the traditional DJ bracelet has been the Jubilee, but early Jubilees are prone to stretch over time... It was never offered on the DD

Therefore, it is more likely that DJ's owners are reluctant to spend a thousand dollars on a new bracelet when the entire watch is only worth 2-3000, and opt for a leather strap..

Likewise, the Day-Date President is only available in Solid Gold, so the bracelets stretch on these too........ DD owners won't spend 10,000 for a new bracelet and old ones in decent condition cost about 3-4,000, so they get a new Italian look-alike for about the same money..... or again they opt for leather...

How much do you think you'd be willing to spend? I DO NOT have one for sale, just curious.

They probably get worn out and less savvy owners sell them for scrap gold, buy a leather (or aftermarket) band/bracelet and pocket the difference... which could be significant.

If you find a used one odds are its stretched also.Mint ones are very expensive. You can have a stretched out 1 fixed these days. Its not new but will be way better than it was before you repaired it.For all the cost and headache have tried a really nice leather or exotic band? They do look nice on them also.I know a collector of day dates and all of his are on straps.

Here's the story. My father passed down the watch(1969) to me while I was in High School after of course he got himself a Black two tone Submariner of course, obviously I was excited. After self educating myself in regards to the watch and quetioning my father, the watch was bought appoximatly 1970 (1 of 2 DD's) I asked him what happened to the original Bracelet? He stated that the original bracelet's clasp kept breaking and he swaped it with a friends Jubilee.
I just want to bring back to the original appearance and I MUST add he never had it serviced until I got hit by a drunk driver in 1990 when it was sent to the RSC in Texas who did a fab job.
One RService watch repair guy wanted to know if I was interested in selling the watch I informed him that it is a heirloom he understood and stated that it's a better watch than the later DD's. There are manufactured more like cars of today making more money on servicing.
I live in Las Vegas and I dont gamble very much but when I do Im almost aways approached by the pit bosses who want to buy it.

As an heirloom, it may be worth looking for a good used bracelet... The watch head is likely worth less than the bracelet, and on an older DD, the value may only be about 7k, so you really need to decide if spending as much or more than it is worth, is worth it to you..........

It might be....... I have some watches I have spent more than they are worth to get them back in top condition.........

Over the past few years, we have had several members looking for a good used President bracelet and not having any luck finding one that was both in good conditin and reasonably priced..
