The traditional definition of a dress watch (like black tie) is thin, with a strap. A nice PP in gold would fill the bill for example. White tie, according to strict adherence to "the rules", requires no wristwatch. A gold pocket watch would be more correct/

In recent years, these rules have relaxed in many circles. James Bond wearing a Submariner is a symptom of this change. So, I will say yes, absent attendance for diplomatic/ state functions where protocol is observed very, very closely. Fashion changes, and this is our topic after all.

Think of it this way: its platinum we are discussing! You can't get too much more "noble" than that.

Wear it!!!

Does the Platty satisfy the traditional definition of a "dress watch''? Probably not.

Do I care? Not at all!

Ergo, do I consider the Platty to be a dress watch? You betcha!

Thanks for all your feedback!!

Although, it does not fall into the catergory of a true dress watch..I do find YM platty very refined and dressy. I would no doubt wear to a formal or black tie event.

I have always lusted for a YM platty since its first appearance...maybe add it to my X'mas list in 2010, my 2009's list is full...:rofl
