Vintage Daytona Question!

Hey guys,

I recently acquired a beautiful black dialed Rolex 6262. Can anybody tell me a little history of this model? I understand it to be a transitional model, but can find very little info. on the net. They also seem to sell at much more reasonable prices than the 6263 or 6265...any reason for this? I would think the transitional models would be more rare/expensive? Thanks in advance!

6262/6264

These two models are identical to 6239 and 6241 and had, however, pump pushers. 6262 and 6264 had the new movement caliber 727, with substitution of the balance that passes from 18000 oscillations to 21600, therefore Rolex have given they new numbers of reference, the 6262 and the 6264 that have replaced respective 6239 and 6241. These two new references have had short life, approximately 2 years (1970-1972) from the moment that not riscuotevano the happened one of the two models with the screw keys.

6262

My father passed away a few weeks back and left me a SS Rolex 6262. I have done a little research on the 6262. One of the best sources I have found is the Daytona: A Legend is Born Book. Looking at prices for the 6262 I have seen online prices from $42,000 US to $120,000 US.

Price seems based of course on condition, originality, and documentation. The exotic dials (aka Paul Newman) demand more in the market. The more you have that came with the watch, box, papers, service history, etc increases the value as well. Some will go for the best watch with or without papers while others demand the complete "package". The watch may or may not be as "perfect" in the package.

This forum offered me a ton of information as well as links to web pages that also gave me more to read about the 6262.

I know forum members LOVE lots of pictures.

A lot of forum response can be found here:
