actually after going through all the thread it is a fake. definitely this will go to the watch out section very soon. it's odd how a gold watch will get some rust.

Never found a Rolex in a family safe....However, a few years back my Dad gave me this watch. It belonged to a friend of his. My Dad was too cheap to ever buy Rolex...and he did not feel like caring for this piece.
My Dad had this on a Stainless band!!! After asking some TRFers, I determined it likely came on a strap. Have it sitting on Lizard now. Point is, I don't think I could sell it...a) because it is not a popular model and b) It's really one of the few things my Dad ever passed down to me. Albeit via an old friend. I *think* it is a 1955 or 1960 vintage. Sorry if this is off topic / and I was not trying to hijack. Just interested in the Dad / leave behind angle. |

The serial # should be under the bracelet on the 6:00 and it should start with a Number...should you would have to take out the bracelelt in order to see it.
Good Luck |

TRF IS STILL a great forum & still has GREAT HELPFUL members. There are many threads asking "what's it worth" and nobody would begrudge another putting monetary value on something- especially a Rolex. Not everyone who owns one will be passionate or sentimental, but one thing is please don't try & pull the wool over our eyes. I have learnt a hell of a lot from this forum & most people have been nothing but helpful to me, so I have the utmost respect for TRF. So I won't stand by while someone appears to abusing our tolerant nature. All the OP had to write was "I don't know it's history" or "found it"... Just be honest. Finding a watch in a safe gives the wrong impression from the start & then to follow it up with comments like swapping it for a car or selling it without the owners (parent's) permission is insulting our intelligence.

You're absolutely right. Maybe the dad didn't know it was a fake. My old man nows nothing about watches. And if my mom (who is even more clueless), gave him a fake Rolex, he wouldn't know if it were real even if it were plastic. And probably wouldn't care because he values a gift for the thought and not the value. So if he gave it to me, it would be a gift of love and I would cherish it more that a platinum moon phase Patek. But, Justin, you have to admit that "finding" a Rolex is not ver common. And if you were at least close to your dad, you would have seen it on him once. And even if all these things still missed your sight, then simply going to the local AD for authenticity is much easier than going through all these posts. My 2Cents

Look at the sentence structure (or lack there of), multiple periods after his word fragments, lack of capitalization, and the signature "ha ha ha" on his posts. Sounds like someone who is very popular on this board.
