New Year Resolutions.
Give up swearing, bring peace to Iraq and the middle East, become an Olympic athlete and reconcile the North and South Koreans.
Now that Christmas is over and done with, tradition now demands that we set our sights on the New Year and to make our resolutions. I must admit that I gave up any serious attempt at this some years ago, strangely having succeeded in one. I gave up smoking – and I managed it now for 33 years I’ve tried the lot, you know – Lose weight – like that’s going to happen when you’ve still got eight tins of Quality Street sweets hanging around from Christmas. Exercise more – getting out of bed and staggering downstairs to make coffee is enough. But I enjoy my grand kids and walking the dog. Drink less – OK, I managed that one, but it had more to do with a doctor’s warning than any New Year resolutions crap. Be nice to people – WTF? well I do try on that one but some just ain't nice back. For the last decade I have had only one New Year resolution – and that is not to make any more resolutions. I’ve stuck to it like sh!te to an army blanket. As we all know, most people are lying buggars. More common lies include 'The cheques in the post' and 'No Darling, of course I won't ### in your mouth' but the biggest and most flagrant abuse of truth ever to exist is 'The New Years Resolution' Quite how this foolish idea came about, nobody knows for sure, but Alcohol, especially the vast quantities consumed over the Christmas period may have something to do with it. As the post Christmas imbibers, all severely suffering with mild blood poisoning, limb malfunction and partial blindness, all publicly swore they would never touch another drop. And onlookers, thinking this was a good idea rushed in like fools and made countless rash promises. Perhaps it is the excess of Christmas that causes the guilt which in turn fuels the idealistic but in reality impossible resolutions. Who knows? Who really gives a toss, come to think about it... It's easy to assume that every overweight person has made a new years resolution to go on a diet. Quite what the diet was exactly is a mystery, but the 'Eat like a Weed, smoking like a Mammoth' diet seems to be the one to choose if success is your goal for 2007. Smokers too, get in there and make your promise never to puff another cancerous cheroot (Just make sure you finish the packet in your pocket eh? Oh. and don't forget the exemptions such as extreme periods of distress and drunken nights at the pub. With all the OTHERS who promised to stop drinking in the new year. It's fine to smoke another persons cigs, just don't buy any yourself eh?) If you want to make a real promise, stick to realistic things such as 'I won't smoke another CIG until Midday tomorrow' or 'I won't touch a drop until opening time' because everybody who makes a resolution manages just that. Its in most cases Pathetic self inflicted lies, that will never happen. Any of you guys planning a life change at midnight on the 31st?

Well Padi I guess most of us have at one time or another have promised to never to touch a drop of alcohol again. Speaking from experience, I have done this a few times, mostly when the bed wouldn't stop spinning, or when slouched over the porcelain throne while dry-heaving
Over the past week I have consumed more than my share of fine spirits. This is mostly from parties, Christmas visits and the ever so helpful friend twisting my arm saying "You have time for one more" So I think for the rest of the week I'll behave myself, forgoing my usual glass of vino when I get home from work also. As far as New Year's resolutions go, I do have one that I need to finish from this year. I set out to loose a certain amount of weight, and lost quite a bit of it. 30 lbs to be exact, so my goal is to get rid of another 12 lbs and hit my initial goal. Once I do, I'll see how I feel once I'm there and decide if I need to shed a few more.

I resolve to be a better person. I know I've set myself a difficult task but I think I'm worth it.

Never make a promise you can’t keep. Not to a friend and certainly not to yourself. I guess I need the help of a strong doctor’s advice to stop consuming alcohol. I know, I’m a spineless git who can’t stay of the cigars, vintage Port and old cheese. It’ll probably cost me 10 years of my life. I’ll never know ‘cause we luckily don’t know how old we’ll get. It all sounds very shallow and all but this is part of the way I enjoy life. Can’t help it. So no resolutions for me. I never have made them and I never will. Dreams and wishes yes, resolutions, no.

I have things I want to do and if I cannot do them it will not be the end of the world. But I will not stop other progress for these things:
1, Get back stateside. 2. Get a nicer car. I bought my 2006 Toyota brand new for me and the now ex to drive when visiting her parents. Since that won't be happening I want a car for ME, not for US. The Porsche 911 "Carrera 4" 4WD is looking nice. 3. Visit family in California. 4. And lastly, be first in line when JJ flips his TT Blue Sub! Last edited by astcell; 27 December 2006 at 05:40 PM.. JJ, the gold on your watch has swirls on it. Are those whorls from your fingerprints? Have you handled the watch so much that your watch is already falling apart?
