Hi all,
I live in Toronto. I am a relativly new watch enthusiast. I am a recreational diver looking to get into technical wreck diving a a year or two. I currently diver a Seiko Orange monster on a ZULU band, but came here because I am seriously considering investing in a Sea Dweller (if I skip over mid range watches and go from a Seiko OM to an SD and stop there, am I still a watch enthusiast?). I am buying the SD more for it's aesthetic appeal, history and, frankly, for it's business credibility in some circles, than in it's diving properties (there's lots of other watches out there with similar capabilities for less money), but that said, I expect it will also be my main diver (on a ZULU again). Anyway, as I put some money aside each month for my anticipated SD purchase, I came here to learn more about Rolex and the Sub/SD line in particular. Cheers! |

Welcome to TRF. The SD is a great watch and you can't go wrong with it. I have a Black Monster and so do a few other members here. I love it.
As far as you asking if you skip over a mid range watch and still can be a watch enthusiast, the answer is yes, of course. Especially here on TRF. Brands or value mean nothing here. I think I can speak for the most of us here when I say that the reason we hang out here is for the people. The watches are secondary.

Welcome to TRF, Maple. You can't go wrong with the SEIKO Monster (wearing my Black Monster as I write this), or with obtaining the SD - another fine watch!!! Best of luck, and post pics of your OM (Ed "Rockrolex" will love it!!!) and enjoy your time here!

Welcome Maple.
Another Canuck!!! I second Flyjet601's comment and I'll add to. Just because you live in Toronto does not mean you can't be a Ti-Cats fan!!! |

Woo Hoo! Another Canadian from TO!! Welcome! I'm in Ottawa but lived in T'ronna for 35 years. Any chance you live in Maple?
Don't listen to those Ti-Cats fans who hang out at I Never Win Stadium. I have a black monster... great watch! If you have an OM, I think you may find the SD wears a bit smaller than the OM and will likely be a tad lighter. But we're here to help, so ask away. I find my Monster nicely compliments my 44mm Panerai PAM01. |
