Another Newbie question

I brought my 16264 ToG in for service. Yes I posted before about the grief I received from the AD, but that is another story. He was supposed to send it in to NY for a full service, but the long story short, he decided not to, because he thought it would cost way too much to fix all that was wrong on my watch.

I have had this watch since 98' and bought it from a well respect local jeweler, the only thing that was done to this watch, was the bracelet replacement, I thing the Tog Looks better with an Oyster, so the jeweler swapped it for me. It is a U serial ToG, and he tells me it has the wrong DIAL for a ToG... I told him I have seen a hundred ToG's with this type of dial ( does not have "Turn O Graph" written on it ).

Am I wrong ?

I just read your previous post where the salesman said thet they would "Fedex" your watch to RSC NY for service.

Get a new AD - RSC won't even accept any watch sent any other way than USPS Registered Mail.

Your AD employs an idiot. And a rude one.

Just read your previous post. IMO you need a new AD.

Nice watch BTW

Actually, in all fairness, the current TOG does say Turnograph on the dial.

Since that salesman seems to have days , if not weeks of experience from which he draws his massive knowledge of Rolex watches, he was probably telling the truth when he said he "...had never seen." one.

In all his days.....

Thanks for the comments... This watch was my first REAL purchase since getting out of school and the Army..

About the AD, the one salesman was SUPER nice, but the OWNER was the dink... He pulled out some book and said "This my Rolex Contract".... whatever... I can appreciate what he has to go through to be an AD, but don't stuff it in my face...

Regardless The new Thunderbirds say Turn O Graph, and the OLDER ones do as well. ... but this middle version, I cannot find one.... with the same Bezel as mine, that has TOG on the dial...

Examples...

Same Bezel, no TOG on dial

http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-TURN-O-GRA...item2eaa13c16a

Again... Exact watch as mine...

http://cgi.ebay.com/MEN-STAINLESS-ST...item53df20cd65

again..

http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Mens-Steel...item3ef78d2332

Newer Bezel.... has the TOG...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-MEN-TURNOG...item5638f05389

I know Ebay is not the best place... but if I can find 50 Thunderbirds with the same style dial.... WTF ???

I mean the primary reason he did not send it in, was he thought the dail was wrong...

I think that you are spending too much time on this........

Send it yourself to the RSC.. If you call they will give you packaging instructions and may even send you the materials.... You do not need this AD for anything......

Rolex will tell you exactly what the watch is supposed to have or not, and they will tell you what they will or will not do.......... The AD clearly doesn't know these things...

You can check the numbers on the side of the case to ensure that it is indeed a TOG, and not a bezeled Datejust...

All due respect, I think I am asking the right questions. If the guy that ROLEX says is an expert, is telling me something I believe is not correct, then I figure I need to ask around, I have been told that sending it in to the service center is at a minimum $500.00, then I would prefer to get opinions for free, and spend my money on another watch as my watch was just serviced. When the time comes for a service again, then I will send it in myself, as I was not aware that I could.

The AD did not say it was not a ToG, just that it has the wrong dial. Was looking for some people that experience with this model.

Thanks for your advice on the Service Center.

I once had a guy in a mid scale jewelery store declare my 16013 to be a fake because "Real Rolex watches don't have holes in the lugs..."

Pay no attention to the ranting of this store owner. Your watch is fine, and completely authentic. He is the only "fake" in this thread.

And just because RUSA gives someone an AD contract, that hardly qualifies them as an 'expert'...

It just means that they sell enough watches to satisfy Rolex.
