As a career helicopter pilot, I have had several helicopter pilot friends who have owned Air Kings.

I note amongst my friends only the plain bezel Air King with the stick indices (no numerals).

I wear a GMT Master II from 1986 and, if I had it to do over again, I'd go with a plain bezel Air King with stick indices.

A lovely, professional understatement; nothing to prove.

I appears to me that Rolex no longer makes this particular style of Air King with a plain bezel and no numerals.

Do I understand that correctly?

You have a choice of domed (plain), fluted or engine turn bezel. The most minimal dial will have the 3-6-9 with stick indices. I think with most Rolex models, the dial styles come and go over the years.

On my list!

Thanks for the topic and thanks everyone for the feedback...always enjoy picking through the posts and daydreaming...seeing what other points of view I may have missed in my own consideration of a particular model...

The white face/orange number AK is on my list! I love the simple, understated, elegant yet rugged look of this beauty. Also, I don't have any white faced in my collection (all predominantly black).

Also, as watches grow ever larger, I like that it's kind of the "anti-huge" watch and the "original" pilots watch. Cool.
