Customs duty uk
Hello all. anyone have any idea what i would be charged all in for a purchase of a watch from us to uk for around $5000 . close estimate would be fine . many thanks

This is the reason i think many dont buy from the US as nobody wants to pay alot of import fees.

If I remember correctly the duty isn't actually that much on a used watch, it's the VAT that really makes it expensive. On a $5,000 watch the VAT should be about $750.

add 20% to purchase price to cover VAT, import tax, carrier handling charges & with exchange rates the way they are not such a great deal

think you will liable for 17.5% VAT on purchase price so on a $5000 watch about £560
however just wear it back on your wrist... |

I've been looking into this myself lately, and it's not an easy thing to find on the net.
Took me a while and found this. You need the standard duty rate which is currently 4.5% For watches, then add VAT http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsP...CE_PROD_009989 |

I had a piece come into the country about 5 months ago.
The duty was something like 72p (part of an old tradition when trading with the USA) and then it's 17.5% on the total price.

Its very tricky..if decalred low and shipped properly you will end up paying nothing..
