Is foreign cheaper?

Hello im new to this forum and im sorry if this question has been asked before, but I have done a search and didnt come up with anything.
I was wondering if a better deal can be made by buying new from a AD in a foreign country like Japan?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Welcome to TRF, Chris. Glad to have you here.

As for where deals are cheaper, I would think Japan is not one of the cheaper countries. Based on my knowledge of prices in Japan, they will be considerably higher than in the U.S. U.K. prices are also higher than the U.S. Very possibly, the best deals may be had in the States, although JJ thinks he can get you a good deal at Mansor's in Auckland. But that's in NZ dollars and from what I've seen the prices there are going to be higher than in the States.

Welcome Hoshi. There are lots of factors that go towards the answer. For instance when I bought my wife's TT DJ, I got a discount from the dealer in UK and then I claimed the Value Added Tax (VAT) back. In general Rolex prices don't seem to favour one country or another. It all depends on how well you know the dealer and the exchange rate at the time.

Hoshi, welcome to TRF, glad you have found the friendliest watch site on the net!!

As far as prices go, the two knuckleheads above answered it pretty much dead on perfect. The prices don't vary much, but the discount might. It depends on the model you want, the relationship with the dealer and possibly a few other factors.

Best of luck in the hunt, be careful if you try to buy online, buy the seller more so than the watch. An AD is the best and safest way to go for sure.

Hi Chris,

A big welcome to TRF.

I've actually read (and surprisingly learnt) from another member on an older forum that good deals can in fact be got in Japan from reputed dealers.

Just be very careful out there 'cause some of the best made replicas come from Japan with pretty good Mioyta movements inside!!

Good luck - JJ

Thanks for the replies everyone. Over the years I have owned a couple of real Rolez an Oyster Date and a Submariner and before that I had a Folex or two lol. I have "edumacated" myself to the best of my ability by reading several books like the Rolex report. I appreciate all of the info and kindness.
