I just went back and looked up all the posts Tristan started when Dalip was with him and all the pictures of his family and they really looked like they were having a good time. This is very sad indeed that Tristan would go through all this and then basically screw Dalip over like this. Damn, Dalip, I know this has to hurt in more ways than one. Tristan appeared for all tense and purposes to be a true friend. Some of the pictures make it look like you two were a couple of kids showing off your toys and playing in the sand having a grand old time. What goes through the mind of someone like him? One question Dalip, did Tristan appear to be well off? I mean all the pictures I have seen, it appears to me that Tristan is very well to do. What line of work is he in? Did he ever talk about what he did for a living? Just curious.

Discount vouchers are a token which are either used by oneself or given or shared between friends/clients. Why would one spend 750 Euros on a voucher for a 750 Euro discount?

He wanted to spend about $1000-1200 on a room, Tristan said he could get him upgraded to a suite for about $1900 and than, after the stay, in spite of all assurances, couldn't deliver, ultimately costing Dalip about $2800 instead. Almost 3 times what he wanted to spend, and to add insult to injury, he picked up the tab for some things that probably should have been split. Costing many hundred more.

I don't think they ever existed nor do I think that poor Pillippo, his wheelchair or life support machine existed either.

I'm not sure why he would make promises like that, promises that will end up hurting someone, but I don't understand why people do lots of things.

I'm glad he was escorted off the TRF property, and banned.

Dalip...you put in a lot of effort to create that post and tell your side of the story....thank you for that. I think his character has been nailed by several posters here.

There are acquaintances ...and there are friends. A big difference. Friends I have met, known for a long time...I know them, their background etc.
I don't think I could really call anyone that I exchange text with on the internet a friend. Perhaps I am paranoid, just down right unsociable I don't know, but in this day and age with the ability to be taken for a ride so easily on your computer I trust very few. Everyone is a possible scammer. Anyone can say they have this and that, work for this company or that company and done god knows what else..It's very easy. Heck just look back at the former member that said he had the Patek! As long as you enjoy forums, and don't take them too much to heart and be careful then all is well.

So sad. From what I could read, I see two separate issues here. Most know about how Tristan forged documents that ultimately relieved our admin of his money. I see the Dalip hotel situation a little different. Tristian was being grandiose proclaiming he could get Dalip a great room because he had a means to get a discount. Obviously he didnt (or pocketed the discount himself) so he strung Dalip along on a web of lies and sob stories as to why he couldnt get his money back. Then as Dalip thought Tritian's behaviour was suspicious in the Stevo affair, it gave Tristian the reason to tell Dalip to get bent. More of a pathological liar than conman in my opinion, but still a con. Too bad we'll never know the what was really discussed between Tristian and the hotel manager. Perhaps he owed the manager of the hotel some money as well? My guess is that if you call the hotel and ask for that manager, he might tell a story of a minor fender bender that he had on the highway... Leave it to a con to embellish the story.
Sorry to all who were duped by this guy, I'm glad that the watch community is putting him in his place... |

There are a couple of people that are English that live near to me here in France that are really nice, friendly people....but unfortunately they are compulsive liars! They seem to try to impress all the time and I am sure they actually believe their own lies.

Dalip;
Sorry for all the trouble that you have gone through. From your post you have been a stand up person through out. Don't let his actions discourage you from trusting your fellow man. There are many more honest and helpful individuals than liars and con men.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify and tell us the proverbial "rest of the story." I remember seeing the post and pics from your trip to BCN and thinking "Wow, those guys really hit it off." I appreciate your efforts to provide the facts and allow them to speak for themselves. This whole thing, including the transaction with MOD Steve reminds me of a quote from Topgun: "Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash!" I think Michael really hits the nail on the head with his above feedback. This guy doesn't appear to be a big time major league scammer. Perhaps he was/is "in the making?"... ![]() There is a famous song refrain that states: "You see a man's face, but you don't see his heart." Who knows what was going on with Tristan/Bassethounds? Humanity has many people obsessively compelled to embellish, aggrandize, exaggerate, and sadly, deceive. Perhaps suffering from some sort of disorder like this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudologia_fantastica The defining characteristics of pseudologia fantastica are that, first, the stories told are not entirely improbable and often have some element of truth. They are not a manifestation of delusion or some wider form of psychosis: upon confrontation, the teller can admit them to be untrue, even if unwillingly. Second, the fabricative tendency is long lasting; it is not provoked by the immediate situation or social pressure as much as it originates with the person's innate urge to act in accordance. Third, a definitely internal, not an external, motive for the behavior can be clinically discerned e.g. long lasting extortion or habitual spousal battery might cause a person to lie repeatedly, without the lying being a pathological symptom.[2] Fourth, the stories told tend towards presenting the person in question in a good light. For example, the person might be presented as being fantastically brave, knowing or being related to many famous people. Who knows? Guy spends a lot of time building up his profile/bona fides on a forum, ingratiates himself with some of the members, mods and owners, says he has something he does not, says he can deliver it, doesn't have it, doesn't ship it, can get discounts, knows the "right people", etc...Then, when it unravels there is always an excuse (fantastical car wrecks just one example) as to the extenuating circumstances, but just hang in there and it all be explained.... Whoa. ![]() Anyway it's been an interesting read and cautionary tale for me in many respects. Thanks, regards, and cheers... ![]() --Paul
