Yesterday I was admiring a co-worker's 1675 GMT as we were doing some "Wrist" comparisions... my 67 5513 to his 1675. Now we've had discussions from time to time about how old his GMT is which he inherited from his brother who passed away in a small plane crash in 1970 ( a story for another day). We decided to pop off the band and have a look at the serial number to approx the date of the watch, which is a 181XXXX serial. But what startled me about the watch were the crown guards, which are pointed!!
So help fellow TRF'ers how rare is a 67ish GMT case with PCG's

And no I don't have pictures.......yet.

On a scale of 1 to 10, '10' being hyper rare, I am thinkin your 67 gmt falls somewhere in the 7 to 8 range; would love to see some pictures...

I think "cornino" cases for 1675 were produced till ser # 1.Mln I've never seen over 1Mln ser # cornino cases for 1675

I have one and it is from 1963 and mint--and perhaps some day I will take a wrist shot and post it. My friend above from Italy has quite a nice GMT himself!!!!

A 1967 cornino

'67 is pretty late for "pointed crown guards".

Curious, why did they make these CG's pointed? Did they serve any special purpose?

Cosmetic--they serve same purpose - to protect the crown. I just like the look better and there are far fewer of them!

they where originally designed pointed to give the user more access to the winding crown..but they soon found that the shape of the crown guard did little to aid in the crown accessibility..so they decided in favor of the round guards..

Ok when I got to work today I grabbed the watch for another good look.... well it seems my over zealousness may have been misplaced, the crown guards are pointed because they are WORN that way?? Don't know how or what would cause this from normal wear but they are uneven and the top half of the guards have the correct shape and the bottom half is worn to create a point........

That was the sound of my head coming out of my A.. embarassingly yours....

Conner, that is one hell of a sweet GMT ! Gilt Dial is oh so sweet. Wish my 1.4mil serial still had gilt.
