Lemania 5100 one solid chronograph

Chuck Maddox stated:
The Lemania 5100 is the "AK-47" of chronograph movements: accurate, dependable, reliable, can take punishment that no other watch can survive and keeps on ticking. Certainly not the prettiest movement in the world, or the most elegant of operation, but provides a multitude of information in the easiest to read layout of any watch with so complex of a feature set.

Seems that in practical terms this movement is pretty well respected, it is used in the German Air Force and will perform very well even at forces up to 7g's.

One of the great features is the legibility that this movement yields to the dial as a chronograph. It is one of the only watches that has both the second hand and the minute hand (chrono hands) as full radius centre hands.

Agree Steve the Lemania movement was chosen by a lot of military watch manufactures, and countries.Because of its high shock resistance even when chrono functions were running, and very easy to work on.And very reliable up there with the best ever made, but like you say not the best to look at,similar in design to the old Venus movements. And now a highly prized and very respected movement in the vintage military world and civilian. Now this column wheel movement has been around for now around 60 years with very little change. And at one time the Lemania Cal 2310 was used by many high end manufactures. As a base ebauche manual wind chrono for VC, Patek, and Breguet.

I'd share with you two of mine.

The third one is a vintage Omega Speedmaster MK III

Agreed Peter
Really sweet chronographs Henry.
The minute hand is the distinctive areoplane design which looks great. Also another aspect is the 24hour sub-dial which you usually don't find on chronographs. I guess this is another reason why it might be favoured by the military.
7g's in the vertical plain, that is enough to cause a blackout.

This is the particular watch with a Lemania 5100 movement that I have a hankering for, the photo is from the seller. What do you think?

Thanks C.J.
You replied within a minute, unbelievable
I don't think this photo does the watch justice, if I do get it I'll try to post some photos that show its full qualities.
I think the Lemania movement has a plastic component, but it still gets great reviews, I hope it has been serviced recently, it is a bit of a nuisance to buy a vintage watch and then spend extra $ getting it serviced.
Oh well there is more fish in the ocean as they say.

That's a nice one to have, provided the seller doesn't ask for the sky.

Thats a nice looking watch and price Steve thats when Heuer was making some very fine watches. Now forget about that bit of plastic, the movement is well proved and been around for 60 years with very little change. And some of the top and finest makers in this horological world, have used the Lemania Cal 2310 as a base ebauche for manual wind chronographs for VC, Patek, and Breguet.

A fair price for this vintage Heuer. From the pic the dial and hands are in great shape.

That's great information Peter, I feel a little more relaxed now.

Thank you Henry, yes the dial and hands look pretty good to me. I would have to say I'm a bit disappointed I missed out on a PVD coating a couple of weeks ago. But at the end of the day, when the black coating gets scratched or just through wear wears thin on an edge, it does make the watch look worn. So the brushed SS is a more practical piece for every day wear.

Thanks Ed & JJ for the
