Ball Point to Roller Ball
Newbie here...
On a Mont Blanc, can you swith a ball-point to a roller ball by simply changing the refil or are the housings made differently? Just got a Meisterstuck and thought about trying out both to see what I like better.

The housing is different. Ballpoint will use a twist mechanism, rollerball models use a cap like a fountain pen would. The refills are not interchangeable.

I'd say it's purely a case of personal preference. The ink in a rollerball is more fluid and writes a wetter line but that can cause smudging, especially for left-handed writers. Also due to the ink, a rollerball will require less pressure on the paper to lay a consistent line.
My preference between the two would be a ballpoint. No concerns of losing/breaking the pen cap and the more gel-like ink in the refills are less likely to dry up if you don't use it for a while. |

MonteVerde makes a roller ball replacement that fits the MB BP.

My Starwalker ballpoint is completely different. It feels like a "normal" pen and is great for me. There is also the convenience factor of not having a two piece pen. |

Careful Dustin, if you hang around here too long you will end up buying and using a fountain pen and then there is no going back!!!

I just purchased a MB Generation rollerball. Does anyone know which Monteverde ballpoint refill would fit this? Thanks in advance!

Im a lefty who recently got into rollerballs. The smudge factor is minimal and the trade off for smoother writing is a big plus for me. Unfortunately, I think a rollerball cartridge in a bp pen will dry out fast as one cannot cap the pen....

As Shahan said there are many choices of ink colors you can buy and use with fountain pens over RB's and BP's!!!
Jump in the water's fine.....
