It looks like a Deep Sea is $2500 cheaper then the Daytona but that is not really a concern. I am liking the look of the Deep Sea on the wrist though, this is a tough choice.

After reading more of the forum and seeing some amazing pictures I have to go with the Deep Sea. It just seems to have the look that I think of when I hear the name Rolex. Thank you all for your help:)

I have both a SS white Daytona and a DSSD. The DSSD gets far more wrist time. The Daytona will keep its value longer but the DSSD is just much more useful and I think it has a lot more pizzazz than the Daytona. It does take getting used to.

As always, it all depends on who you are, what you do for a living, your hobbies, your personality, your vibe, your body-type/build. You need to get a watch that sings to you as well as fit you.
The Deepsea can easily look out of place and is not a suitable everyday watch for most people, but one heck of piece of over-engineering! :-) Daytona, black or white, is a classic and classy choice. My choice, of course, would be a GMTIIC (ss or two tone) or SubC... Buy it here from one of the trusted sellers. Saves you a ton. |

I have both - at the moment the Deep Sea is on the wrist, and the Daytona is in the safe.
As has been said by everyone, try them both on and go for the one you like best. No point in letting people anyone else influence how you spend your hard earned cash, you've got to be happy with it. If you're looking at it purely from and investment perspective, then by all means take advice, but it sounds like you'll have an emotional attachment to the watch, so go with your preference. You won't go wrong with either Anyway, the odds are ...... you'll eventually end up with both anyway |

Daytona or Sea-Dweller . . .
Quote:
Taking a poll on something as personal as a primary watch (and one's initial Rolex) seems a little silly to me. If 85% said Daytona while you preferred the Sea-Dweller, what would you do? Go with the majority, or buy what you like? At the end of the day, you're the one paying for it, and you're the one wearing it. What others prefer should have no bearing on your decision . . . |

daytona, without question. the deep sea is massive. too massive, i think, unless you're an NFL lineman. have you looked at the regular submariner date?

I wear a Sub C and was thinking of a Daytona as my next watch. The problem is that I like the look of the Tag Monaco blue and the new moon phase Longines.
I can buy both of those for the cost of the Daytona. You sort of get sucked into what peoples biases are. This is obviously a Rolex forum but you can become a slave to it by auto pilot and group think. Do you wear a Rolex b/c of how much it cost, because of its technical superiority ( The Daytona doesnt even have a date function ) yeah yeah I know what the purists will say. Its great marketing by Rolex to have people sucked in. Its not just Rolex. I looked at Pateks as well. I find them really dull. Just because it costs a fortune doesnt mean it will make me more interesting when I wear it. Taste is not for anyone to judge. My point is, buy what you like - what YOU like. |

DSSD & Daytona are extremely different in size and fit, trying before buying is a must
