Newbie
Hello all. I have been lurking for a few weeks and have really enjoyed the wealth of experience and knowledge you all have! I now have a Ladies SS/Plat. Yachtmaster w/silver dial and a TT Datejust with silver dial. In my past life I have had another TT Datejust with Tapestry dial, 18K Yellow Gold President and an older 14K Rolex dress watch.
I do have one question for all of you with your experience. The Yachtmaster I have just purchased has a reference number of 1669622 and a serial number that begins with A. I purchased the watch preowned from a local store in ABQ. According to the serial number references, this watch should not have a crown etched on it. If it has had a replacement by Rolex, will they replace a "no etched" crown with an etched one? I am a bit nervous. Thank you all for your time. :) Kristin |

If they do replace it during a service it should have the etched crown with I believe an S also in it denoting service. Corect me if I am wrong all.

There is no model 1669622.
Do you mean 169622. The etched coronet in the sapphire crystal was only introduced around the "K" serial in or about 2004. Your "A" serial well precedes the "K" serial and as such you should not expect to have the coronet etched into your crystal. When a Rolex Service Centre replaces a crystal, they might also have old stock that may in fact have no such coronet. I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. However, if you have any issues regarding authenticity then it might be prudent to go to a Rolex Service Centre to see what they have to say, or someone else who is reputable and knowledgeable. Also welcome to the forum. The Platinum YM is a great watch A photograph of your watch is also useful if you wish to obtain some more opinions. |

Thank you for your prompt replies. Indeed this watch DOES have the coronet on the crown. That is what makes me nervous. I saw it today under a loupe. I could not see an "S" in the logo but then again, I didn't look for it. I am not sure how to safely take the bracelet off to see the numbers myself but the appraisal says 1669622. Maybe a typo? Any ideas? I will post pics of it tomorrow when I have better lighting. It is midnight here and the lighting is poor.

My guess is:
1. There was a typographical error of 1669622 in stead of 169622; 2. We are talking about the coronet on the crystal not on the crown? 3. When Rolex first introduced the coronet laser etched into the crystal, I don't think they had the "s" designation released. It might be that it was at that time that your crystal was replaced and it got replaced with a crystal without an "s". 4. I trust that you purchased your watch from a reputable seller. 5. I don't think that it is advisable for you to try to take the bracelet off if you are not familiar with doing so or have the appropriate tools. |

Thank you. Yes the crystal and not the crown. I agree. I think I would only damage it if I tried.
The dealer has been around for many years and even though he is not an official Rolex dealer he has sold many people in this community their watches. I guess that is no guarantee though. I could take the watch to Ben Bridge here and ask them for their opinion I guess. I also bought my TT Datejust from him. All those numbers and specs seem to match up. It is hard to believe it is not authentic. I will post pics tomorrow and see what you all think. |

Well, if you bought the watch from:
a) A retail shop; and b) A dealer that has been around for many years- that gives me a lot more confidence in thinking that you have a genuine article. A dealer has a reputation to uphold and also is generally accountable, at least much more accountable than an internet dealer generally speaking. There are many good dealers around who are not official Rolex dealers, so I wouldn't think any less of the watch being genuine for that reason. |

The original crystal would not have had the etching; but the replaced one will have an etching with an "S" in the middle....just like this!!

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
Here is a photo of my Yachtmaster and TT Datejust. I am feeling better about the YM by the way. I have to admit that I took the band off (with a watch tool) and everything looked good. You all were right. The reference number was indeed 169622. Hope you like the photo. |

By the way, does anyone know if the Ladies Yachtmaster from serial #A (1999 ish) have the SEL or is this something relatively new for that watch as well? Thanks...Kristin |
