While looking for these, I found 6511/4 (Stainless Steel Day/Date).
I would have definitely thought one of those was fake had I seen one.

That's a pretty penny for stainless.
I imagine it could possibly be fairly popular if offered today.

I have seen it before, and I have it in my Rolex Reference guide 3rd edition by Charles Jarman.

Obviously, this DD is going to stay in my collection for awhile. If I DO make a move with it one day, what approximate value would you put on it in regard to either a private sale and/or dealer trade value if I wanted to turn it into something else? I want to understand what I really have here. Best regards, sapphire65 |

While I understand this was meant for Larry, Let me give you a suggestion.
A watch as rare as this should be put into public auction. Sothebys. Christies, Antiquorum etc. Day-Dates are becoming highly collectable and unsual ref. numbers are highly sought after. An Asian auction or a Geneva auction might be your best bet. Good luck! Jeff |

Christies Hong Kong auction catalog isn't coming out until next week.
If you hurry up and contct them you might make it for their upcoming auction. |

Wow - check this out from ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...AQ%3AUS%3A1123 I did a Buy It Now. Looks legit and all. I have asked the seller to provide pictures of the model number 1811 on the other lug. Hope he can show me once and for all the proof. Though the back case is inscribed 1811 - still the proof is not yet in the pudding. I have not paid yet. What do you say? Looks like the Day Date grail? I also wrote it in the General Discussion as I think more people will read it there. |

Going back to the original argument of this thread, here's what looks like the same watch for sale on ebay in Switzerland.

Posted a couple pictures of the 1811 on the other side of the lugs in the General Discussion area.
Well, the more I look at it, the more I like the bark bezel. Who knows what actually happened in 1976 when Rolex needed to install a bezel in this 1811. |

I suspect this is a " recuperated " 1811 case . It is obvious that the moiré bezel and bracelet was not a commercial hit . Most likely at some stage of it's life this watch has seen modifications ( a bit like the one of the OP and on offer on Ebay by Jeff Hess ) to make it more commercially acceptable . Just maybe .. a TRF thread can sparkle off " desirability " and this watch has been " re- moiré -d " in the hope to fetch a premium ... which it did . Just my 2c . |

Interesting follow-up on this thread.
Spotted this ad for a 1811 for sale. I copied a picture that was included from a book from the sale thread: http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=195816

![]() many reference numbers are unknown so far but they exist ! i always knew only 1500 date for example, then i found a 1505 and a 1501 i know this bezel, it looks 100% like rolex if the refence number matches ??? i don't know but i believe it is o.k ![]()

looks like a very rare beauty youhave their, i have seen one before but i think it was the 1811 non quickset, its definetely a rolex finish i have seen before on that bezel, likely worth a lot in the right auction amongst collectors fighting over it regards
