checking if case back has not been cross threaded?

Some time ago, I hastily read in an old 1955 manual - "DeKarl??? " if my memory serves me correctly of the name, that you can always tell if a case back has been correctly placed (not cross threaded) onto the back by looking around where the back buts on the case and that the space should be even right around or lightly passing a fine toothpick around and you will feel an even flow right around. Has anyone ever read this or can further explain if this rings a bell with anyone?

Never read this, but yes....its relatively easy to tell....if the caseback sits unevenly on the case - its likely been crossthreaded.

I actually caught one with a cross threaded caseback at Jared's while shopping their latest 'selloff'. They claimed it was a new watch but it lacked tags and serial was from 2005.

A gauled or crossed threaded case back will not thread down and if by chance you can screw it down it will not come back off to have a perfectly level case back is rare they will always be off ever so slightly. Rikki
