Just wanted to point out...

That my crown is positioned perfectly. I never really looked (or cared) but I was giving it a bath on the weekend and noticed that it sits straight up.

Ehhhh. O k a y, sure, whatever you say. (Call 911). Of course it is! Isn't it supposed to be?

But does it really matter? I know I'm always checking that the bezel marker is at 12, because THAT'S really important!

Actually, the crown on a Rolex isn't supposed to be lined up. I mean the coronet on the crown stands up right when the watch is on your wrist. More often than not, it's upside down or sideways.

I just thought JJ would get a kick out of that tidbit.

Oddly enough the crown alignment has never bothered me all that much. Some of mine do while most of them don't. Ehhh...

Uh, John, exactly what kind of bath were you giving it that the crown sat straight up?

I really could care less also, out of the numerous Rolex I have owned, this is the only one that was straight. I would think that it would be possible, but what the hell do I know.

Perhaps it is "under-engineered".

Now that it's gotten colder, my crown is experiencing shrinkage.

That's 'cause a new crown was put in, Al. Mandatory practice during any service. Obviously, the thread milling on the new crown somehow matched up perfectly with those on the stem and the crown came out straight up!!

I really couldn't give a rat's if it was aligned or not. Just interesting that on a watch costing thousands, a simple $10 engineering to make them all line up, was simply ignored.

Logic? Rolex? Not in the same sentance, but you gotta love them for it.

Just finnished aligning mine..... took a pair of needle nose pliers and turned it but, now I can see the rubber o-ring and it don't want to stay screwed in and it looks like the threads are shorter now. Do you think I over thightened it?

Earl, my rule of thumb for tightening the crown is to get a pair of vice-grips. Then crank it down as hard as you can and when you feel it start to loosen, back off a half-turn.

Yeah, but no one ever said it was correct information. I mean, who gives their watch a bath anyway? You gotta wonder about people like that.

I need to do a little (il)legal research to answer that one, Peter.
