New member...lifelong Rolex lover

Hello All...my name is Jess and I work/live in Southern California.

My Grandfather wore a Rolex every day for decades and I always admired the watch. Now that I am a father (my son is 3), I find myself drawn to finally purchasing one...not just looking at them at my local dealer every few months.

It's time to reward myself for all of my hard work!

The Explorer (1) is the perfect size for my wrist, but I'm not sure that is is flashy enough.

I've always loved the GMT II (pepsi dial), but not sure it goes with everything I wear.

The 50th Anniversary Green Submariner always catches my eye.

Lately I've really been drawn to a two-tone GMT II with blue dial/bezel.

I feel like I'll be "pulling the trigger" soon...any advice would be appreciated!

Some questions I have are...is it better to buy from a Rolex authorize dealer vs. buying a new watch on ebay or some other website? What's up with the RSC registration process...is this necessary/advised?

Any other advice you can provide would be appreciated. I'll post pics of the new addition as soon as I make the purchase.

And if anyone in Southern California can recommend a good local store to purchase from...I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jess

Welcome to TRF.

So many nice ones out there, sometimes making a choice seems impossible. It's not however, just remember whatever you chose your getting a great watch. It's always possible to get others later on if you should chose to do so.

What's so great about the Pepsi and SubLV is that they provide a bit more flexibility with various inserts that you can use to change things up.

Just take the time you need and determine which one you like best. Get that one first.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi Jess, I'm also new here and have a GMT II on my wrist as I type this, a magnificent watch which you certainly won't regret purchasing. TT is a matter of taste, having a single colored bezel does little to detract from the watches character and is certainly easier to match to clothing. Going for a Pepsi bezel is more of a statement however and in turn wont need to be matched. It will just be there as its own thing, no matter what you have on... and since it is a GMT, that is fine.

In the interest of full disclosure I have to say though, mine has a black bezel and might have had a coke bezel if that had existed on the IIc. So I'm hardly practicing what I preach ;)

Welcome, another SoCal rolex fan...

Welcome,

A pepsi GMT is great first choice watch. You can change out the bezel colors, and they sit lower on the wrist compared to a submariner, they also have a thinner bracelet clasp....Here are mine:

http://www.evozine.com

In terms of stores, I've been on the hunt for stores in Northern San Diego and southern orange county--There are plenty of great stores. If you have the time, start visiting the stores in your area and get to know the owners, ask lots of questions- this is how I found my last two watches...

In terms of the best selection of used Rolexes, I really like jewelers-on-time in Newport Beach. You can visit Kenny there, try on really nice watches and get a feel for what you like.

Good luck
