Almost anyone who is in business is selling a good or service with a majority having "sales people" so before you make such an ignorant, inflamatory statement, pause for a second and think about it before posting.

There are bad apples in any industry but by and large, the vast majority of contractors, lawyers or used car salesman for that matter are ethical, hard working and professional so keep the stereotypical BS to yourself because the facts speak for themselves.

Now politicians...

Based on this, it is more likley than not there was just a communication breakdown of expectations verses him employing unethical business practices. I wouldn't go on a rampage to sully his reputation unless he intentionaly was out to decieve you but it doesnt sound like that was the case.

I would guess if he is as reputable as you state, he will give your money back and then you can just go look for a different contractor.

No harm, no foul...

I'm not a contractor, nor a sales person, but why would you say something
like this? Are you this bitter about every aspect of life, or is this bile just something saved up for contractors and sales people ?

I am sorry to hear that. I would give Home Depot a try. They did our granite in kitchen and did a phenomenal job. They threw in the upgraded edges and were super to work with. Hope you resolve it!

You took his comment out of context--try reading it again. There are many great real estate agents and some are good friends. Such ignorance....

Check Angie's List and get all the details written into the next contract. There still may be problems, but hopefully less.

OP, sorry for your experience. I hope everything works out for you.

Anyone else considering doing a construction project, +1 for Angie's List - pay for it, it's worth it.

I got my refund on my credit card without the necessity of disputing the charge. He did it promptly. Since the salesman was the father of the owner, I wrote a lengthy letter to the owner and sent it to his home. I made several constructive suggestions. I did this on the premise that it was a miscommunication rather than a planned bait and switch.

Quite some time ago, I called home to see what was happening and my mother informed me that my sister and her husband were going to add a bedroom to their house.

Knowing my brother-in-law's medical history, I said, "Mike's going to have a heart attack before this is all over."

Sure enough, the contractor, a friend of a friend, came in, collected his deposit, tore up a big chunck of the house and "disappeared" for a few weeks while he used Mike and Terri's deposit to finish a job he'd already started before he came back to finish theirs.

Sure enough, before it was all over, Mike had his first heart attack. Fortunately, he lives to tell about it.

I'd heard this story so many times from so many people that it was as predictable as the sunrise.

The good news is that when the job was finally done, they had a beautiful addition to their home.

The question is, was it worth a heart attack?

Next time you might want to deal with a granite fabricator yourself. We did that last year. You can have the fabricator throw in the sinks for free. When the contractor has the frame ready the fabricator will send out his measurement guy. We were given a choice of 6 edge types which were free. Others had a charge. We picked a 1/2 Bullnose. Simple and spills go to the floor. Not into your cabinets.

The contract should list exactly what you want from the slab to the edge.
We spent 2 months driving all over NJ looking at slabs.

Don't get me started on faucet decisions. One word... Internet. Go to a kitchen and bath place to look at the latest and greatest. Then buy it online and save yourself a LOT of money. I'm still trying to figure out why we needed the instant hot water dispenser. Oh, now I remember. Because her friend had one.

Yes, granite has different levels of quality. We (my wife) decided on Quartzite. About twice as expensive as regular granite but much harder and you don't have to worry about stains.
