Winder or no winder
I have just purchased a new multi winder for my small rolex collection. I would just like to know your thoughts on whether you think it better to keep watches on the winder or just to wind them individually when needed.

If you owned five cars, would you leave the ones you aren't using sitting in the garage turned on and idling or would you leave them off until you were ready to drive them?

No winder here as my wrists and fingers work just fine. This one is posted quite often and usually gets mixed responses. Also for me no need to let them work while I am not wearing. To each his own though..

Thanks for your thoughts
Dont think there is any real comparison though with leaving a watch on a winder to leaving a car running 24/7

Got a winder because: I love to just interchange the watches on my wrist at the morning without setting them up... Date, Time, all correkt :)
Ps.: to stay with cars: When my cars are for longer in the Garage, I put a Charger on their batteries .... ;)

I enjoy having a few winders. My watches are always ready to rock n roll in the mornings.

No winder for my 3. If I was a multimillionaire with 10+ perp cale maybe I could see the use but the 15 sec it takes me to set a watch isn't worth wasting the hundreds winders cost. IMHO I really don't understand why someone with 1-2 Rolexes waste the $$$ on a winder. If I'm not wearing no need to put more wear on the movement. When I first got into nice watches I thought a wonder was something needed. Now I see them as a waste.

Let'em wind!!! I have (2) Orbita Sparta dual winders. I will say that I usually manually wind one when I take it off the winder to wear to ensure it has a full power reserve. I also wind my PAM 112 every other day.

I have 3 automatics and no winder. The only reason I've thought about getting one is because I'm tired of having to set my desk diver every Monday because I take it off when I get home on Friday and put on my G-Shock, and only remove it if the wife and I are going out. Then I have 3 others to choose from.

This is why I have a winder. Convenience. I have to be at the office seeing patients at 7 so the luxury of just grabbing something and running is worth it.

I actually just bought a Sub, which will hit my rotation with my others, but not as a daily. My daily wearer is a Seiko SKX007 for a couple of work reasons.

No winder...don't see the point...what's the point having such fine watches if you can't take a minute in the day to look at it and set the time?

I rotate between my SS Daytona and Explorer II 42 and appreciate having the other on a winder ready to go.

No winder for me. The watches I'm not using are in a safe deposit box at the bank. Don't want them laying about at home on a winder that a burglar can just come in and take!

The only winder I got as present has been in storage for at least a couple of years.
No Rolex watch has enough complications worthy of sitting on a winder IMHO. It's so easy to adjust it when you need it and less wear on the movement.

In fact, my AD gave me a Wolf winder when I purchased my second Rolex from them. I thought that was a nice gesture and the battery life on it is excellent.

What I find so interesting for this recurring "winder or no winder?" thread, is that us guys with winders see it as a nice little convenience for our automatics to be 'ready to go' but we have no great emotion about it, but the "NO WINDER" camp is passionate about not having one. Not sure why that is.
I'd rather not have to set whichever automatic in rotation that gets wrist time today, but hey, if the winder broke, my day would not ruined. |

I got a free Wolf with my purchase. Charged it a month ago and it's still going off battery. Nothing special, but a nice touch to close the deal. Keeps my Zenith Chronomaster T Open running and lubricated. Just makes good sense.

And as for the would be burglar, that's why we have personal property assurance, ie 230 grain. No retreat law here.

The GMT takes a little longer to set if I let it stop. That's the only reason I would consider one, but for now I'm ok without.
