Milgaus GV or the PO Seamaster 42mm?

Have been lurking on the site for a while but decided to put my first post up!

Am deciding on my next watch purchase and just wondering what peoples opinions are..please don't say both because not in the position to get both..no doubt eventually i will end up with both anyway if i can't shake this watch fever i have been infected with :-)

Am deciding between the Milgauss GV and the Omega PO Seamaster 42mm black dial, black bezel with orange numerals..i know the Rolex is more in terms of price so i want to know what other TRF members would do..If i go for the Omega i could take the pennies out the pot and have the watch on my wrist within a week but is it worth putting a few more pennies into the pot and holding out to get the Milgauss.

Have seen and tried both on and like them both just need to decide which one sings a nicer song to me. Currently i rotate between a 16610 Sub and a GMTIIC so which one would be good to compliment these..Am not a fanboy of Rolex but are Omega really on par with Rolex?

GV.
The PO is a nice watch but not on par with Rolex IMO although some others may disagree.

I like the milgauss and in particular the GV, however between the two I would go for the PO. I think its better value for money, a better size and probably more versatile ! Just my thoughts

The Milgauss (gv or otherwise) is a beautiful watch with a rich history. You can dress it up or down and it can take a beating. This isn't to say the PO isn't a fine watch but for my money, the Milgauss hands down.

Completely different watches !! Its been said a million times - try them both on hopefully at an AD who stocks both & you should know which one for you

With a lot of UK AD's doing 36 months 0% finance - I think it makes the choice a lot simpler !! On that basis just choose the watch that suits best & if you go for the Rolex your "only" paying out an extra £40 or so a month.

Rolex also keep their value whereas you'll take a big hit on the PO but if your in it for the long haul who cares about the resale value !! I've had my Omega SMP since '98 & probably never sell it anyway

Welcome to TRF Bucky...the PO is a big clunky thing compared to your other 2 Rolexes. Just my opinion of the case and bracelet it comes with.

In a rotation with the Sub & GMT, I think the GV is the better choice.

Two different price points and style of watches. The GV is not for everyone and doesn't look good with everything. I would get the PO in 45.5mm

I'm going with the GV crowd here...

Totally agree with the comments about fitting in with your current rotation. I think you will be really pleased.

I really like Omega, but I'd probably lean towards the GV.

The new Omegas are on par with Rolexes IMO. Quality wise on par, movement wise surpassed. But I would choose the Milgauss GV, there is no watch that has the beautiful green crystal. The only draw back is the no date, but since you already own two other watches it's ok!!

Normally I would vote for the Omega. But since you already own the GMT and Sub. I would get the GV to add some spice to your collection.

Of these two I would rather have the Milgauss GV

But I would rather have a black dial (non-GV) Milgauss

And I would prefer to have a Datejust II than a Milgauss

You already have two Rolex sport watches, so if you have to choose between the Milgauss and an Omega Planet Ocean, I'd go with the Milgauss.

On the other hand, you've shown an interest in saving some money. The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is a very fine watch, make no mistake about it. But I would not suggest going with the Planet Ocean's orange bezel or orange numerals on the dial because in a few years the watch will likely be dated. Just go with the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean with a black dial, white numerals, and orange-tipped second hand.

The Milgauss and Planet Ocean are completely different watch designs altogether; they are hardly comparable in the same class. Since you already own two Rolexes, go for a little variety and get the Omega; save the money or spend the difference on servicing the two Rolexes you already own, if you have serviced them in the past 5-7 years.

I would vote for the PO if its the new 8500 PO..
But please give it a try on the wrist first, you might want to try the 45mm and compare the fit to the 42mm version

Would you not class the Milgauss GV as sporty? as for the Orange bezel on the Omega. not really a fan of that prefer the black does anyone else feel that the orange numerals would make the watch dated in a few years? opinions please! Would that not be the same as the Milgauss as there is alot more colour going on with that watch? Just curious

Planet Ocean.

1. The 8500 on the PO is an excellent movement.

2. You already have two Rolexes. Variety is the spice of life.

3. I've had the Black Milgauss. It's extremely top heavy b/c of the faraday cage. I'm biased against having a non-dive watch/ dress type watch being that heavy. For me, it's kind of weird.

Sell your Sub or GMT IIc; buy both the Milgauss and the Planet Ocean? Nice variety then if you're looking to stay with three watches.

GV. Because PO is almost an 16610, which you already have.

It'd be you dressier option.

I tried on the Planet Ocean 42 mm yesterday and it's a gorgeous watch. The PO 45 mm is ginormous- big dial and very deep case. The Milgaus would balance your collection more. The bottom line is to buy the one that sings to you you.
