Submariner
I own a Rolex Submariner (red) that my wife purchased used back in 1986. I have had it serviced at the Rolex service center in Dallas a couple of years ago, they replaced the bracelet clasp and crystal due to the Cyclops eye being wore down. It keeps great time and I where it every day I even sleep with it on, that way I will never loose it, it is very special to me.
I am curious of the age of the watch, the numbers between the lugs on the 12 o’clock are 1680 and the numbers between the 6 o’clock lugs are 2503xxx. Would you know the approximate age and what should I insure the watch for. I have looked a few websites and found these watches range from ~$4K to $15K, I find this hard to believe since my wife purchased it for les than one thousand dollars back in 1986. |

Welcome to TRF!
The 1680 number is the reference (model) number for the Sub Date, and below you can find the year of manufacture of your 1680: Serial numbers! CLICK! So your watch is from 1969/70. Value for insurance purposes would be around 10,000 - 12,000 US $, maybe even more if it is in good state and has its box and papers.

Yep, I would agree around 1969-70 era for that one. If you have access to a trusted watchmaker with the correct tools - they should be able to pop off the caseback and tell you the date stamp inside (I'd recommend a pressure test afterwards if you use the watch as much as you seem to).
Lovely watch the 1680 Red and pics are called for now please! - Neil.

I sure hope you have the original dial that came with it, thats where most of its value is. Please show some pics, by the serial# it should be a RED-Sub.
