Amen....just an anecdote sort of along this line.....here in western Colorado there are lots of cowboys (and wannabees). I personally wear cowboy boots much of the time and just like Rolex WISs, there are boot WISs so you often find yourself engaged in a conversation about boots. Recently I had a fellow look down at my boots and said "Are those Tony Lama's?" I said, "No, these are mine." I don't think he got it.

Good reason to always wear your Rolex!

Interesting thread, and Yes, I've been in conversations when others had on their Rolex and myself not. Didn't bother me per se, but I did view it as a lost opportunity to perhaps have a nice conversation that might have developed.
I was with a guy wearing his Platinum DayDate the other day, he never noticed my paltry TT DJ, if he had, I am sure he would not have said anything. I wanted to remark but for reasons such as others have posted above, did not want to make a thing of it since he had no interest in what others were wearing. |

Happens to me many times...
So I will live the "Ironman" motto: the watch and I are one. Not taking my GMT off again....

I am only wearing the sub now, so your encounter won't happen.
Last year, before I took the Rolex plunge I did run into a guy with a really nice red sub. He told he bought it new when he was a grunt in the Navy, he keeps the watch perfect with frequent service by Rolex... He told me it's the only watch he'll ever need. I am feeling the same way about my white sub, that is until I buy my own Redsub someday... Lessson here, buy, insure and wear everyday one Rolex.. Just my opinion ...

Good point Gunter, the red one I have been considering is all original, looks new except a little bit of fading on the bezel insert. All paperwork, boxes, tags, etc. However the 12k price does make me pause and think a red might not ever make sense for me when I already have the perfect white sub...
Of course you could buy one of my sub16800's and help push me over the wall into RedSub world...

Wow
Some really good responses here among the sad ones. I wouldn't walk up to someone who have never met and tried to begin a conversation just because he/she is wearing a Rolex. BUT The topic may be raised during the course of chatting to someone at the bar or at the dinner table and their response would gauge my continuance on the subject. During my lifetime I have met many thousands of people in all walks of life, so I believe I have developed the experience to decide for myself if I should talk or not. Most of the time my judgement has been good but sometimes you will come across a wise ass. |

Can you really get magnetized at the grocery store or library checkout?

What you have is a case of the "My other car is a Ferrari" syndrome.
