Does anyone know if its possible to take in a Rolex to RSC and get it authenticated on the day or would it have to be left for a while, also any information on a rough price?

Not sure about RSC I'm sorry, but I do know, take it to a good Rolex AD.. and they should be able to authenticicate it for you

Why not give them a call. Some RSC's no longer do authentication, depending on the vintage and model.

I've taken many a watch into the NY RSC and they authenticate on the spot....I mean you wait about 1/2 hour: for NYC that's 'on the spot'.......

what would you suggest would be the best way of getting it authenticated (with paper work to prove it) other than going down the route of getting it serviced?

my local RSC doesn't do authentication... but you can ask any (wostep or equivalent) watchmaker to take it for a look for you

if you want paperwork+warranty then you need RSC servicing, or you can ask for new gaskets+pressure test and you will get a receipt with serial number of the watch (and you will know then its authentic as they dont service fake or frankens)
Otherwise any other authentication isn't worth the paper its written on

jolimont is right, although they won't do the test that he describes if the watch is outside of any warranty.

Are you worried your watch is not authentic did you buy it from a non reliable source. Most any high street watchmaker could get the back off if they have the correct tool, its only like unscrewing a jar and not rocket science .Once the case back is off there is no mistaking a genuine Rolex movement.

was bought from a reliable source however i'd still prefer some clarification and/or some documentation for that ultimate piece of mind.also would be nice to have if I ever decided in the future to move the watch on.

Mate, being a Manc I'd usually ignore anything with gooner in the title... however, like a previous poster noted, if I were you I'd take it to any 'proper' high street watchmaker (there must be lots of them down there) and see if they'll whip the back off and take a look at the movement...if it looks like a rolex, ticks like a rolex...etc....cost you a tenner... Well depending on age and if watch is due for its service have it serviced. Then you will have all the papers you will need, and that bit of paper from Rolex will be a full two year warranty.There is no way I would pay to have a watch authenticated, if like you say you bought from a reliable source, I would put the money saved aside for a service by the RSC.

I concur - I took my first one there in 1997, and they registered it for for me as I'd bought it in Switzerland. I was there a few minutes only and they were very helpful. I doubt this has changed. Ignore Gateshead advice...

One thing, if the piece is stolen and has been reported to Rolex the AD will not give you the watch back.

Last few times I have been to St James Square they told me they do not do this. They will take watches in to be serviced, but do not authenticate watches.

have just called rolex st james square and been told by them that they do not offer this service. so looks like ill just wait till its service time and use that route.
