Calling all dial experts
Guys,
I'm in the market for a 6265 Daytona, and came across this watch. The seller says the watch's serial # is 5643XXX dating production to 1978, and is 100% original and untouched. After closer inspection and some research, the red "Daytona" signature looks smaller and narrower -- suggesting it's a replacement dial? Would appreciate any feedback/comments from the community. Thanks! |

When looking at a vintage watch and evaluating its components: dial, case, hands etc, what you see is just as important as what you don't see.
My observation: The dial is a service dial evidenced by the fact that the red "Daytona" print is small and that the A is to the left of the "1" tic of the sub dial instead of the right. This is supported by the fact that every lume dot on the dial is frosty snow white and absent of patina. The observation that the hands match the lume on dial perfectly, suggests that the hands have been replaced as well. Other pics of the watch would complete the story. If you are considering it for purchase, adjust your offering price accordingly.

Thanks Beaumont! Very helpful input as always. Good catches on the lume dots and the hands. It seems like the more I research about vintage rolexes, the less I know!

Maybe a reflection (or my eyes) but the bottom left part of the "R" in "OYSTER" appears to be faded or missing....just one more point to consider when making an offer.
In any event, best of luck with it. |

Another small one.....the hour accumulator sub-dial does not seem to have zero'ed correctly....
