Opinions on this 1970 5513 please.

What are your thoughts on this 5513? Anything look astray? Everything comparable for a 1970? I thought the insert might be a replacement. I'm looking for a solid 5513 representation.

Best to all.

looks like a beautiful example. Given that the price is reasonable I would feel confident on that one, congrats!

It looks great, however I thought the bracelet shouldn't be a rivet? And.. crown is triplock? Shouldn't be the crown be twinlock? I'm not sure :)

I think I see 72 on the bracelet clasp.

Need macros of the dial - but dial looks very nice from these pics and case looks thick. Not sure about the bracelet. Coronet on the clasp is not over polished.

It's folded not rivetted.

Insert is a mid-font. Nice and clean watch nonetheless. Congrats

I believe 70 would be twin lock and 72 triplock. Or, could have been changed out during a service later in its life. Since the bracelet says 72, I'd be interested to know the serial.

Looks very nice. I've a '71?, that I bought in '72 (267xxxx).

The bracelet links are not stretched, which is very good. The bezel insert is different (fatter font) and quite unfaded for the age. I wouldn't think the Triplock crown is original, but a plus IMHO.

Wear it in good health!

Not a vintage expert at all here but that watch looks sweet to my eyes! If you decide to buy it wear it in good health!

Nice restored 5513. The work done to the lugs is very nice!

Most vintage Submariners have had the twin lock replaced with a triplock and is very common and not a "big deal" to collectors. The band, if it is a 9315, is correct - which is a folded Oyster band.

Twinlocks were still around in 1972.

Thanks John, I wasn't sure. I thought I read somewhere, where a memo was sent out in 1972 from Rolex about the triplock being installed and the go forward crown. I imagine they were still around even after that with models that sat around for extended periods of time.

very nice 5513 indeed
the triplock is no issue at all
the folded 9315 looks nice but does show some stretch... (first pic at 6 o'clock)

Nice, would need a Twinlock and a proper bezel insert...

The lugs appear laser welded and reworked. Those chamfers aren't original.

Thanks for the heads up. How common is that in older sport watches?

Ask the seller and see what he tells you. Most don't divulge there resto secrets. It is pretty clear that the lugs look new and do not match the rest of the case and caseback. I'm seeing it much more lately, but as I just said, most sellers aren't divulging lug restoration. They can only be original once, but the lugs can be restored many times. Personally, unless the lugs are "toothpicks," I'll take original anytime.
