I agree, I never cared for the nicknames and don't use them. I think it was a JJ thing that always sounded a bit childish to me.

Wow - BEAUTIFUL pictures!!!
My AD still hasn't received any of these - I have the first one reserved, but the wait continues for me...
Seems like the BLNR is showing up pretty regularly now - my AD must just be pretty far down on Rolex's list to receive one...

Stemming from the French words:
-BL=Bleu (Blue),
-NR=Noir (Black).

you might see some photos in this forums are that to light blue-ey, but in real situation, these color of blue is what u get.. :)
Maybe, if you live in Europe or The Northeast USA in the winter. Take this out into the sun and voila!

This is what makes the BLNR grow on me more every day. The color of the blue is always changing regarding the ambient light. Sometimes the blue is hardly noticeable, sometimes you can see it a little more, then sometimes...

Yes, the blue may appear sober or vivid, depending on the light. This watch is trully amazing.

Did I say anywhere in this thread that pepsi is ok? Great first post, now you need to learn how to read and then you might be able to make some worthwhile contribution to this site.

Reading is too difficult.

Obviously, you never said it was ok, but everyone calls that particular GMT "Pepsi", and I've never really come across someone that had an issue with it (maybe not yet; does TRF not like the term Pepsi, either?)...so maybe Rolex owners nick name their pieces... what's wrong with the dude calling it Batman?

The dude calling a GMT BLNR BATMAN, shows how imature Rolex owners are. You do not see Patek or high end watch brand owners calling their watches names. That shows respect towards the brand and the watch itself.

Go and ask for a Batman, pepsi, hulk at a Rolex store and they will just laugh at you, because there is NO such thing in their product listing.

Call the watch for what it is, then people might know what you are talking about online and in the real world.

Well, John... when put that way, THAT makes sense. Then I totally agree with you!

...Let's not forget Rootbeer too!

Nice shots, Degas.

I don't get caught up too much in the nicknames. It's all good.

I didn't like the initial pictures from Basel. But all of these pictures in this thread make me want one. Maybe even need one. It's kinda like free advertising for Rolex.

John

Are you for real???

Rolex watches have had nicknames for ages in the Rolex collectors' community.

Do I have to remind you the "Steve-mc Queen", the "Paul-Newman", the "Freccione", the "Jean Claude Killy", the Fat-Lady", the "Pepsi", "Coke", the "James-Bond", the "Pussy-Gallore", the "Pan Am", the "Red Sub", the "Double-red Seadweller", the "Bart Simpson", the "Big-Crown", the "Bombay", the "Egyptian" and so on.....

The newest nicknames, Kermit, Hulk, Batman are just a friendly wink to this long time custom among high end Rolex Collectors.

you may of course dislike these nicknames but I suggest you do your homework and study the long time habits and customs of the serious Rolex collectors before you start talking nonsense comparing Patek with Rolex and blaming Rolex owners to be immature....

Thus you will show some respect to the brand's history.

TRF is THE real world for a Rolex WIS and I agree it looks a bit different than your gloomy "real world" where ADs are Gurus.

This brand is great, but I hope talibans will allow us to enjoy our watches.

Right on, Michel! Rolex watches are synonymous with nicknames. Always have been and always will be.

PS: LOL at the talibans! :)

^See, I'm new to this forum (and Rolex in general), I'm more of an Omega man, but I was thinking of possibly a Rolex for my next.

Theres always been bad connotations (although never entirely true) about Rolex owners and wearers (sometimes that view has been solidified, almost did it here with someone's response to my post) then there are responses from Michel that ensure me there are true enthusiasts out there.

Seems like a general split: the purists and the newer generation, if you will... but I always thought it was common amongst the Rolex WISs that something like Pepsi or Rootbeer or Hulk was used.

Johnbeth is right in the sense IF I walk into an AD and ask them about "the new Batman GMT" I might get a weird stare from the girl who's trained to know Rolex, but if the girl is also a WIS, then that may not be the case!

Anyway, beautiful watch. Enjoy it, I certainly like it...
