Lume test

So was a bit bored this evening... Did a small lume test.

Pictures is JLC Navy Seals, AP ROC, AP ROO Diver, Rolex Submariner.

"Loaded" the lume with a LED lenser 225 lumens flashlight, 30 sec each.

First picture fully charged, second picture 15min delay, third picture 30min delay.

Easy to pick the winner... I'm not overly impressed by the Divers lume longevity to be honest.

I did the test in a "dusky" light, as this light is IMHO a light where the lume comes into account.

(Sorry for the bad pics)

These taken in complete darkness.

The two AP's didn't show up at all, Rolex and JLC. To the eye there was a very faint glow from the AP Diver, the ROC completely dead.

JLC is the clear winner.

Not very scientific, nor is lume that important, but sure AP could have put a better lume on a dive watch as the Diver.

Nice shots and testing...I've found the 44mm's have a pretty good all night lume (i.e. see in middle of the night when I wake up).

Sounds good Paul.

I'm not hooked on lume, but I must say I was surprised at my results!

Fun test. You're like me in that when I'm bored, I mess around with things like you've done.

For me, Nothing beats Panerai's when it comes to lume.

Interesting test. For a diving watch to go 300m, the lume on the Diver is completely unacceptable but who cares for a Diver to really go underwater to that depth. I wouldn't at least.

Here's a 30 second exposure shot of my (ex) Diver. Lume is the weak point of this beautiful piece, I agree. I don't understand why AP neglects this aspect.

Agree the lume is not a strong point of the Diver. My Pelagos does much better in this department.

I am also not a fan of the lume on my diver. AP should improve this

I've got to get one of those Pelagos--lume is outrageous

Yeah, as I said.. I knew from the forum that the lume was weak, I just didn't expect it to be this weak. The difference between the watches is much bigger to the naked eye than to the pics.

I love the Diver, but since it's such a beautiful tool watch and the dial is spectacular, and so much of it is covered in luminous material, it's a bit of a shame that it doesn't last longer.

I agree 100%. With today's materials, there is no reason why all AP lime cannot be stronger--especially Diver. The Ti Schumi has almost zero lume.

True, but if you are going to have it, then why not make it good?

I was quite shocked when I first got my 15300 and woke up in the night to see it totally black, when I could usually make out the time on my Sub for quite a while after lights out.

Yeah, it's funny when people complain about Rolex lume.
