Yacht-Master Popular Or Not

Just wondering if most people felt that the Yacht-Master is a popular watch. I rarely see people wearing one or really talking much about them. Thanks.

It's kinda like the SD. You don't see them often in the wild but that does not mean it's not popular.

Sandro,
Wait till you meet JJ! Welcome to TRF.
It's true the YM is less common but holds much respect from Rolex enthusiasts. A great look.

Never considered one until a couple of weeks ago when I saw it in person. I have always been an SS professional series devote. Liked it so much, bought it that day.

I remember when it was first released in SE Asia. People went nuts for it. The ADs were selling out and then hiking a premium on top of MRSP.

Now it's still in demand, but I tend to spot more of the 'boy's size' and ladies' sizes on wrists than the full blown 40mm version. Also, there also seem to be more TT models around than SS/PT.

I think it's popular and it's well-liked. Maybe it doesn't sell as well as others because of its price. I think it's a fantastic looking watch.

This is a great looking watch, bit dressy for scruffy gear, but a real belter of a time piece.

Definitely not popular as Sub or GMT Master, but very beautiful and stylish watch.
YM in combination of steel and platinum is maybe "dressiest" sport watch ever made by Rolex.

I bought a TT YM on Saturday (just made it before my AD changed the prices on 3/2). The fact that you don't see as many of them makes me like it all the more.

While having dinner last night (Captain's Tavern) and wearing my "Platty" another gentleman having dinner there was also wearing an YM.
Didn't speak to him but think he saw mine too.

I haven't seen another YM in the wild yet.

So when someone mentions the YM, what comes to mind? The platinum? Two-tone? All yellow gold?

Hi buddy, and welcome to TRF!!

While the YM may not be as popular as the Subs and SD, it certainly is a very classy dress-cum-sports watch....all rolled into one. The best part about it is that it's still fitted with the TRIPLOCK crown giving it virtually the same depth rating as any Sub.

The lugs are nicely curved in for better wearer comfort while the watch head is perfectly balanced for a finer watch-head to bracelet weight ratio.

And, of couse, it's still comes with the same dependable 3135 movement as the Sub-date and SD.

What more can you ask for from a classic watch?

Cheers - JJ

I think the Yacht Master 1 is a truly unique watch because it features both a stainless steel and platinum combination. Something that I only know the Yacht Master has. Plus the red second hand over the platinum dial offers a truly incredible design that I think is also unique to the YM. It is probably one of the most unique models in the Rolex collection.

To quote the great JJ, "Nobility, thy name is Platinum!"

I have only spotted one in the wild. It was in Vegas as I floated past on the lazy river at the MGM Grand. Gave him a thumbs up and it was returned. See the YM SS/Plat on TV sometimes but I love the rarity. It's not as common as some Rolex watches.

I bought a Rolesor YM with diamonds and saphires on a MOP dial as my second watch (I traded in my Roleser mid-size ND Oyster) only because it was barnd new and 39% off MSRP (probably as a loss leader and probably because it was the last of the hollow center link models). I actually found, to my dismay, that I didn't like it that much once I got it home (nonrefundable) because of the YG bezel. But it has really grown on me, and now I look forward to the day that the rotation puts it on my wrist. I love it.

I think it's an awesome watch. I have a TT GMT-Master IIc that spoke to me louder than the YM as the YM was my first choice. I just purchased a Sub Date and cannot afford a third. If I won the lottery I'd own a YM in a heartbeat. Along with a few dozen other watches I like as well .

I think it's a classy dress watch and has a nice sport look as well.

I like the YM but..how do I put this politely? It's a rather "subdued" watch in SS which I am sure is one of the qualities many find appealing but to me, it's kind of boring. I have had one on my wrist on a couple of occasions and it just doesn't do it for me. I like it better in a TT or YG version as I think it dresses it up and always liked the look of the solid gold bezel/insert.

Sorry JJ, don't throw sheep biscuits at me!

I initially felt the same way, I wanted something more eye-catching and really thought I was going to get the blue sub. But the platinum YM really grew on me because it's such a classy watch.

How can you say no to this?

I have a SS YM, as does my wife. I was on the waiting list for years for a daytona.
The daytona arrived and I wore it for a day and didnt like it as much.
I love the weight of the YM against the other Rolex watches.

I was on holiday in Barbados this year when we started to chat to another couple (as you do) He too has a SS YM. But we never spoke about them ....
