The Omega that started it all...

My father passed away when I was very young. A few years ago while I was cleaning out my storage I discovered a box that my mom had given me of some of his "manly" belongings. One of the items inside was this Omega DeVille from the 60s or 70s:

At the time, I had just become interested in mechanical watches, so I naturally wound it up. It started running again, for the first time in over 30 years, seamlessly, flawlessly, and in that moment I felt my father's dreams and aspirations had been inherited. An absolutely magical moment for me.

Since then I've added many nicer watches to my collection, but I always come back to this one being my favorite. I can't think of anything better than a meaningful timepiece to pass to my own son, and he to his.

Beautiful watch and glad it allows you to reconnect with your father. Many members on here would agree with you that the "brand name" and "price" of a watch mean nothing when compared to the sentimental value attached to a special timepiece. I now have my grandfather's Elgin pocket watch which has little monetary value but it's the only piece I own that I would never consider selling.

Thanks for sharing that story, I hope the watch keeps ticking for many years to come and helps you to think of your father each time you wear it.

Great watch, ever better story, I think in part we all collect watches with the though of passing them on, more than collect I think we are just the caretakers for the next generation.
