5513 insert help required
Wouldn't mind the experts casting their eyes over the following inserts. The middle one came on my 1979 5513. I have photographed it next to a service insert (left) and fat font insert (right). Without stating the obvious, it appears to be a 'mid-font' insert. Question is...does such a thing exist?
Would appreciate opinions please.. Service insert... 'Mid-font'... Fat font can be seen on the right hand side in the above shot. Thank you in advance. |

Any thoughts on the above? Here's the 'mid font' insert on said 5513...

The mid-font one looks aftermarket....what does the back of it look like?

Enjoy the inserts. Looks like you have a nice collection started!
By the way, regarding your question, "does such a thing exist?" Yes it does exist - I see it in your first post. Now, go out and buy a couple more Subs and you'll have a nice collection.

The thickness of the insert, the lettering wrap, and the shape of the 4 put me off a bit. I could be wrong, still reviewing ; ) |

The 5513 came from a well respected source (along with the 'mid font' insert appended to the bezel assembley) and I was merely asking for expert opinion as to the provenance of such a 'mid font' insert. If it is indeed aftermarket, I would be flabbergasted given its source |

A lot of the are pushed out to the edge - don't think it is a big deal.
I have had fat fonts and thin fonts in my possession, no mid fonts so I am not willing to comment on that.

Thank you. Mid font was my own nomenclature, in that the font size sits between 'fat font' and service. It could be that it is a 'thin font'

I've said it before and i'll say it again.....what is known as the 'mk3 insert' was the insert of choice from end of 60's all the way through the 70's into the 80's and in my experience you take 100 off them and put them down next to each other you will see a difference in weight of font print ...now some will argue its wear on the printing tampon ...some will say they thinned out over time ......but yes there are varying thickness IMHO

Also...none of the inserts Linesider posted have their numerals printed all the way to the edge of the insert, like the OP's mid-font.

Ahh - you mean on the inner edge - I was focusing on the outer edge - here is a MK3 that is right up against the edge - different than a mid font:

I've been seeing a lot of variation in inserts lately. So they may very well be original...
