Overly tight bezel on GMT
When I first got my 1675 a few months ago the bezel was tight, but moved. I have been wearing it daily since then and now, for some reason, the bezel barely budges. I know that I need to push down on the bezel when turning, and I am doing that, but still, it'll barely move. Haven't banged it hard on anything or done anything else that I recall that could have screwed it up...
Is this the sort of thing that can be easily fixed by a qualified repairman? Thanks. |

Probably just needs a good cleaning. You can pop it off yourself and take a look or take to any decent watchmaker and he will take care of it.

Josh - typically just some debris (sand, dirt, etc.) typically by pulling it off and cleaning it will return it to spinning condition.
Happy to help you, if you'd like. See you're local to NYC. |

it probably hasn't been turned in a long time, take it in the shower & spin it both ways.

It could be dirty or sometimes the tension spring and bezel need to be removed and reinstalled to get the bezel spinning again. I have noticed if they are not lined up correctly when you instal the bezel it will be very tight and difficult to turn. The tension springs are cheap so if it looks mangled when you pop off the bezel you might need to replace it.

UPDATE: Went to torneau where the watch maker looked at it and said he couldn't do anything and that the bezel spring needed to be replaced. Then the guy behind the counter explained to me that there must be something wrong with the watch because it's supposed to click as it turns and only turn one way! WTF? I don't expect them to know everything about vintage watches but they should have the common sense to not call something broken if they have no clue what they're talking about! He said I could send it out for an assessment of work needed which would take 2-3 weeks!
So then I did what I should have done in the first place and walked over to Rolex on 5th Ave. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful! Their service center upstairs was closed (it was after 5) but they said their in-store service manager could look at it. He explained that sometimes the bezel on an older watch just needs some lubricant. He lubed it up and it now turns very smoothly! If anyone needs great service, Brian Leece, Service Manager at Rolex 5th Ave, was awesome! |

Thanks to all for the feedback! Didn't see that before I posted the update. Jeremiah, thanks in particular for the offer to help in person!
