advice needed on a trade deal
First wanted to thank everyone for the advice on flipping my blue dial sub and breitling chronomat. I have decided to keep the sub and flip the breitling.
My question: how would you trade a watch me being in TN and the other guy in NY. I don't know this guy or he has no references. Is there a way to trade the watches where we both are somewhat secured. Thx in advance |

Maybe an online escrow service that you deposit the money into and he gets it once it's delivered?

Don't really know the answer, but I would want a middle ground. A watch dealer that would take a commision, but would verify that both watches are real and working. The money transaction is down to you and use your banks to exhange the money.

I would be very careful dealing with someone unknown and not being able to meet physically. There are lot of scams happening. I was in a kind of similar situation some days back and asked a similar question here. What I figured out is that Paypal is also not very safe when it comes to a seasoned scamster.
Personally, I would not exchange watches if I cannot do the deal in person. Just my 2 cents. |

On a diff note, I called the breitling AD to see if they would be the middle man for this. Still waiting for an answer. Fingers are crossed |

If the other guy sends a fake watch, it would be an uphill battle to prove to Paypal that the watch is fake. What if this person reports that he indeed sent a real watch and the complainant has exchanged it with a fake one. This person would already have your watch by then and Paypal is not going to do much.

Is this worth the hassle--what watch are you getting in the trade?

Do YOU have reputable refs? If so, provide them to him and propose he sends his watch first.

Exactly. This, or find someone with an easily verified ID and references.

I would do it in person or use a trusted seller as an intermediary, provided they do that sort of thing. Sucks but it is what it is.

Good to hear you're keeping the sub.
Where did you find the owner who's willing to trade?

Was trying to trade my chronomat for another chronomat but with the polished bezel and case. After reading all the comments above I am second guessing this transaction and may decline the trade. Will see if any trusted sellers here might the chronomat I'm looking for. Once again thank you everyone for the advice |

you need to do a little background check on the guy. it's part of the job, if you don't like what you see drop it.
