That wouldn't make sense. Continuing the 5167 example...

Absolutely ,EU is the most competetive in PP pricing these days.

It is indeed a valid German price list in EUR and yes, the prices include 19% VAT. I´ve got it lying next to me here on my desk.

But George is right, this list was valid from April 1st 2014 and issued long before the SNB decision. I´ve visited my PP AD on Saturday and he´s also expecting an increase - rather sooner than later.

I'm stuck on this because I'm deciding what to do---anyone agree/disagree with this calculation for a 5960 in Germany. I know today's prices are subject to change, but from the 4/1/14 German price list:

5960/1a = 41320 EUR including 19% VAT.
After VAT refund - total US is: $37,820 (vs $54,800)

Before I serious consider a trip to Germany to save $17k (plenty of $ for Warsteiners!), does this sound plausible?

All price lists in Europe MUST be shown inclusive of VAT. Its the law. Otherwise it must be clearly be written that all prices are subject to tax. This includes Switzerland. Swiss AD are normally not allowed to give any discounts. Any AD that has given discount will never admit to it, and certainly not in writing. If they do not know you they will also not admit to it by telephone: it could be a check from the head office.

Just to jump on board here and make sure I'm not insane... \
5711/1A is 20110 EUR, -19% VAT = 16290 EUR = $18383 USD?

Is there any legit way to check stock for Germany / EU retailers before buying a ticket ASAP? Would they even bother taking your calls seriously if you're stateside?

Do you get the full VAT back? When I was in Italy was interested in watches but all the services take a big chunk of the VAT as a fee. The fineprint in getting a VAT refund without using the services sounded near impossible.

20110€ -19% vat comes to 16892€

They will take your calls. But my experience is that very few answer emails.
Good places to start (all PP AD)
Patek Salon Paris,
Hansen in Hamburg
Wempe Stuttgart
Wempe Munich
Steltman Den Haag (but Netherlands prices seem higher than German ones)
Schaap + Citroen Amsterdam

Check with dealers about the admin fees the Vat refund organization charges.

As far as my experience goes: it IS impossible. Unfortunately for us the EU has allowed the VAT refund organizations to charge fees. And they do

Thank you all -- sounds like it's well worth the trip. Now, just need to find the time and watch.

I have bought PP5164 last year from Wempe Munich the Tax refund is 14.5% Not 19%.
You can use this Tax refund calculator
